This book, published in 1975, is a good, workmanlike study of that great but little-known Victorian statesman under whose three premierships the British Empire expanded to be the largest the world has ever seen. It can't, of course, compare with the magisterial work by Andrew Roberts, which will probably never be bettered, but it functions very well as a concise overview of this hugely important man's life and work. If you want an accurate, functional precis of Salisbury's reign, you won't go far wrong with this book. 3 people found this helpful.
