Two illuminating volumes of autobiography-The Most Upsetting Woman (1981) and In the Wake of Diaghilev (1982)-were meant to be the first of six, but his publisher withdrew because of his frankness about homosexual activities. Two out of several plays by him were produced, although only in minor theatres (Gossip Column at the Q Theatre in 1953, and Family Tree at the Connaught Theatre, Worthing, in 1956).
