Sailing Yacht Design book. Sailing Yacht Design: Practice Contains a series of chapters by different designers on their experiences of translating scientific principles into reality.

Sailing Yacht Design book. Covers the practical design of hulls and appendages such as keels and sails. Describes the practical design of the structure of a high performance hull made from advanced composites. Looks at production techniques and boatyard facilities.

Sailing Yacht Design: Practice. Contains a series of chapters by different designers on their experiences of translating scientific principles into reality. Puts a practical perspective on handicap rules, statutory and regulatory constraints and safety considerations.

This book forms part of a two-volume guide to the fundamental principles governing how and why a sailing yacht behaves in the way it does including an understanding of the physics involved and mathematical modelling.

Sailing Yacht Design:Theory" "Sailing Yacht Design: Practice" by A. Claughton (Author), R. Shenoi (Author), J. F. Wellicome (Author). They are a collection of papers from a lecture series and as such are useful supplementary reading once you know what's what, but I don't think they in themselves comprise a coherent and even usable single source text book

Sailing Yacht Design Practice is a follow-on volume to Sailing Yacht Design Theory. Sailing Yacht Design Practice provides practical applications of the theory of sailing design as of 1998. Sailing yacht design has made multiple leaps in technology since 1998, but the practice volume provides the student of yacht design with practical applications used by design studios. The book introduces the student to real designs and how they evolved from the theoretical. The explanations are thorough and easily understood. Both volumes which I purchased were priced at the current level of pricing for college textbooks, but they are worth it. The volumes' authors are specialists in various aspects of the design of sailing yachts from the preparation of the yachts' lines by CAD to construction methodologies using strength of materials techniques and design studio fees and work. The books are great and compliment Principles of Yacht Design.

Given the cover and the price, the expectation was at the max - this would be the "must have" book on yacht design. Alas - it is expensive, but not due to any extraordinary value. What you are paying for is a smallish paperback that is printed on demand. Unless you are preparing for your orals for a PhD in naval architecture, don't waste your money here... There are lots of other excellent books on the subject of yacht design at every level of technical sophistication available from amazon.com at a fraction of this book's price.

The book is written by multiple authors, one subject each. As a result, the book does not always proceed in a very logical order and the quality of the chapters is varying.
J.A. Keuning (Delft University) gives a very good review of performance prediction of yachts. The structural design part is also quite good, but there are some chapters which are of very little use, for example the mathematical background to fairing of hull surfaces.
At the end of each chapter is a list of references, which is very helpful since the book is too short to go into very detailed explanations.
The book is not a tutorial on the subject of designing yachts. It is more like a set of articles regarding different aspects of yacht design. To get the most out of this book some basic knowledge of basic naval architecture is required.
