My 3-year-old son just loves this book. This book depicts situations that are a big deal in his world -- small children navigating what to do when, as Mr. Rogers says, "one person tries hard to do things one way and another person tries hard to do things another way." He loves looking at the photos and he laughs at the photos of the kids when they are being silly. During playdates, I have even referenced parts of this book to help him make good choices (e.g., when another child asks him to share a toy he's playing with, I reference something from that part of the book, etc.). Great book!

My almost 4 year old daughter was instantly drawn into this book when we began reading it for the first time. It deals with a topic that she can relate to. As with all young children who are around other kids, she sometimes "fights" with her friends. It is written in a way that the child is fully engaged in the topic of friends and the pictures that accompany each point help the child understand the emotions of others. It reads like a discussion and my daughter often answers the questions Fred Rogers poses about friends as we read. The pictures are dated, but to me, that makes this book unique. The eyes of a young child do not pick up on the dated images...they only see young children like themselves. My little girl loves this book, I love reading it to her, and it's a book she asks me to read over and over. Wonderful book for children.

I got this book for my two year old as it was highly recommended by a Family Education instructor who teaches a toddler-parent class we attend. I grew up watching Mr. Rogers and was happy to continue the tradition. My son really likes this book. He really studies the pictures of children interacting and likes to talk about about them. He also spends a lot of time looking at this book on his own, which means he really likes it. From a parental perspective, I find this book very helpful in initiating conversations with my toddler about how to interact appropriately with others, how to be a good friend, and appropriate play. Overall, it is a fantastic book for children who are looking for guidance on how to be a friend.

i really liked this book for my 4yo nephew
after reading it to him, i was able to use the info when the neighborhood girls got upset at each other.
i basically remembered what the book said and repeated it to the crying girls. lol.
it helped a lot. they immediately understood and were able to discuss why they were upset with each other and resolve it.
the girls were 5yo and 6yo.
i've also read Mr. Roger's potty book to my daughter from the library and we really enjoyed that as well.
I don't mind the dated pictures. frankly, kids don't know the difference and I think it's fun to see. Friends have the same problems, no matter what decade.

The Mister Rodgers book series is awesome and this book did a fantastic job of explaining the difficulties of making and keeping friends while also discussing the joy of having friends. The examples spoke to my 4.5 year old son and helped him to understand that he is not the only one feeling conflicted about interactions with his young friends. I highly recommend this book if you have a child in preschool.

This is defentaly and "outdated" book by the pictures displayed in it! BUT, it gets the point across and has very good tips about making friends! The pictures in this book are big and catch the child's eye and helps them understand what your reading to them more easily! My 3 year old enjoys this book and gets a lot of of it. I would recommend this book to anyone!

My children enjoyed the PBS television show with Fred "Mr. Rogers." I enjoyed watching Mr. Rogers with them. He taught children so many wonderful lessons in his gentle, kind way. I purchased "Making Friends" for my grandson for Xmas, and he loved it! I purchased another copy for my granddaughter, and she told her parents that the postman gave her a "cool" book. Her parents explained that Grandma and Grandpa sent it to her, and the postman just delivered it. She called us to thank us for the "cool" book. I think this is a wonderful book for children.
Oh, Mr. Rogers, you are so good. The kids in my preschool/kindergarten class really responded to this book, listening with nods and smiles...Mr. Rogers knows just what it's like to struggle with the difficulties of friendship: sharing, jealousy...and the joy. Straightforward talk, perfect for sparking discussion.
