Start by marking The Soul of the Silver Dog as Want to Read: Want to Read savin. ant to Read. The problem with this book is that Ms. Hall failed to actually educate herself on the sport of dog agility before writing it, and the scene described at the end - where the protagonist verbally guides a blind dog through a course at an AKC event - isn't possible. First, even during the brief period that agility wasn't yet an official AKC event, there were safety rules prohibiting blind and lame dogs from participation.

No problems! Book was in good condition--a little bit used, but not bad and well worth the price. Speedy delivery.

While the setting and story of this book is far different from Old Yeller and Where The Red Fern Grows, the heart-wrenching bond between dog and child are the same. It's been maybe 15 years since I first read this book; I still tear up remembering it. Wonderfully written.

I love this book! It touches my heart the way the girl (sorry I can't remember her name right now) takes Sterling home and trains him. It shows that even if someone (the dog in this book) has a disability they can still accomplish great things. That even if you are not perfect to the eyes of the world, you can be perfect to the eyes of those who love you.

I first (and last) read this book 20 years ago (which sounds crazy to say out loud). As a child, I was an avid reader who voraciously inhaled any new literary discovery I could get my hands on. I don't remember where I got this book from or what made me decide to pick it up - but two decades later, I still remember the story. I remember the story because it is embedded in my heart and soul. It was a defining piece of my childhood and proves that books are truly timeless pieces of magic.

I am now purchasing it for my two daughters and hope that the legacy continues yet another 20 years into the future. I am grateful to have found such a beautiful story so early on in my life that taught me to believe in magic, overcoming obstacles (pun unintended), and the powerful love between humans and their pets.
