The Bed Book was later included in Plath's Collected Children's Stories with different illustrations. In the original book, illustrator Emily Arnold McCully infuses her pictures with warmth, depicting a sort of nostalgic idyll. But the later pictures by David Roberts come closer to the zaniness the book intends. The collected version also retains additional verses that had been cut from the book's first appearance. Why those particular lines had been removed is unclear.

It is out of print, and I was delighted to be able to get this copy at a reasonable price, and in very good shape. My 20 year old daughter was delighted with her Chanukah present.

A fascinating and comprehensive transcription of Plath's journals from age eleven to her death at age thirty.

Plath's second book of poetry, Ariel, written in 1962 in a last fever of passionate creative activity, was published posthumously in 1965 and explores dimensions of women's anger and sexuality in groundbreaking new ways. Plath's struggles with women's issues, in the days before the second wave of American feminism, became legendary in the 1970s, when a new generation of women readers and writers turned to her life as well as her work to understand the contradictory pressures of ambitious and talented women in the 1950s.

My children LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED this book when they were small. Now they both have babies and it is the first book they are asking for. You know it was a hit. Really great story and really hooks little ones in with all the different beds described in the book. I recommend it highly! Can't believe it is out of print. Some things NEVER go out of style!

POFOD
I have loved this book as much as my children and grandchildren do. A classic!
Discovered along a shelf of an old library in Germany this book became a favorite from day one. Forget the Sylvia Plath learned in freshman English and tight biography; the bed book sings. It encompasses all the joys of imagination when the bed in darkness bore you away to magic kingdoms and jungles dark. With a whimsy and rhyme it carries the reader through the shapes and wonders of each bed. "In an elephant bed you can go where you please. You can pick bananas right out of the trees. An elephant bed is where kings ride. It's cool as a pool in the shade inside." Who hasn't wished to snuggle again into the beds of childhood deep and soft, warm with play; no deadlines or faxes to looming near
