Rosie's Walk is designed to teach young readers dimensional prepositions, but this is very much subordinated to the interesting story. Like the vast majority of picture books, Rosie’s Walk places more emphasis on action than on atmosphere. A single thirty-two word sentence sewn together with seven prepositions.

Patricia Evelyn Hutchins (18 June 1942 – 8 November 2017) was an English illustrator, writer of children's books and broadcaster. She won the 1974 Kate Greenaway Medal from the Library Association, recognising the year's best children's book illustration by a British subject. The work was The Wind Blew, a picture book in rhyme which she also wrote. It shows how "a crowd of people anxiously chase their belongings" in the wind.

Pat Hutchins’ illustrations are truly simplistic yet hilarious as you can see that most of the background objects such as the trees have geometric shapes that make this book look simple. I love the way that Pat Hutchins illustrates the trees in oval shapes and the branches are set up all in a row of lines in the trees. This humorous little picture-book, which relies on the contrast between text and image to produce its effect, follows Rosie the red hen as she sets out for a walk around the farm.

Rosie the hen sets out for a walk around the farm. A sly fox spots Rosie and begins to follow her to key landmarks on the farm. The Fox is after Rosie, but Rosie doesn't know it. Unwittingly, she leads him into one disaster after other, each funnier than the last. To enjoy Rosie's walk as much as Rosie, does, just look inside!

This is a great book that every child should have the opportunity to hear and read. Younger children will need someone older to read it and explain the plot, but then enjoying books with a loving adult who takes the time to read to them is what forms the love of reading anyway so that's ok. The illustrations are simple, and the predictable text that goes along with the illustrations makes it a good book for emerging readers to enjoy. It also teaches some positional vocabulary and is entertaining . . . although I can't help feeling just a little bit sorry for the fox at the end. ;-)

Love this book in helping with position words

My daughter, 20 months, loves this book. She laughs out loud at the Fox and points out and names everything she sees. A short lovely book for new readers.

This is a simple, yet engaging book for emergent readers. Students learn positional words as they take a walk with Rosie. This book also shows that pictures often tell more of a story than the words. The fox is never mentioned in the text, but he plays an important role in the story. Students get very excited once they realize Rosie doesn't even know the fox is there. This book is great to build emergent readers' confidence as the students can read the pictures.

We raise chickens and this was my son's favorite book when he was little. The drawings are perfect little vintage pieces. The story teaches prepositions and captures the personality of chickens in a priceless manner. We always have at least one hen named Rosie in our flock.

Not interesting at all. Don't know why so many people give it a good rating.

The book was bound incorrectly, with the beginning pages located in the middle and the later pages upside down. It must be read by beginning in the middle of the book, then turning the book upside down and reading again from the middle to the outside. I was very disappointed.
My kids loved it, and now my 2-1/2 yo grandson requests it for nap time and bedtime. This board book edition is perfect...so glad it,wa s still available.
