Grimly Frank swung the wheel hard right, and the Sleuth missed the deadly rock by inches. The yacht curved away at the last minute slackened speed. The craft was handsomely trimmed in brass and about forty feet in length. The boys saw the name of the ship in red letters: Northerly. Orrin North’s yacht!. A man in blue uniform stepped out on the bridge as the craft drew parallel with the Sleuth. Frank cupped his hands. What were you trying to do-run us into the rocks?

I really enjoy the Hardy Boys series, and Footprints Under the Window is another homerun. The story takes you beyond the shores of the United States. Frank and Joe get involved in chilling events that nearly spell their doom. I highly recommend this mystery and adventure.

This was the best one yet. It had me worried for a bit about one person. It was fun and lighthearted in spots too.

'Footprints' is my favourite Hardy Boys book, and is one of the very best Leslie McFarlane wrote. The story is more complex than usual, since the villain, Orrin North, initially seems to be more sinned against than sinning: he approaches the great investigator Fenton Hardy for help; but in the mysterious absence of their father Frank and Joe gradually discover what they are up against. Whose are the footprints under the window? The question is delightfully posed, and answered, on the last page - a perfect ending to a splendid mystery story.
