Common people. Maybe you heard their names in a childhood Sunday school class. They're not often the champions or the go-to sermon illustrations. They probably didn't stand at the foot of the cross or even hang next to Jesus on one of their own. But they pepper the pages of the Bible, reminding us that we're not alone.

Just like you and me, these ordinary people stumbled and struggled. They faced their own sin and came face to face with a God who not only wipes it away, but also makes the common extraordinary. They discovered that an encounter with the living God changes everything.

I enjoyed reading these fictionalized Bible stories of characters we know so little about from the Scripture. Lucado does an excellent job of putting readers into the scenes and building a relationship between the reader and the character. On top of that he presents instructional application for the readers so the reason the character is even mentioned in the Bible has relevance.

I could not understand why I felt something missing as I read through the book until I reached the end notes. There I discovered each story had been previously published in other complete works by Lucado. I am guessing each character study put into the context of the parent work would have had a deeper message and then satisfied the curious void I felt.

That said, I still recommend this book. It helps put flesh and bones on names in the Bible and brings the meaning of their lives to us in vivid images.

I bought it because a friend of mine posted a brief on FB and I can't resist to view it. Since the first chapter I was captivated by the way the author present the character. I felt like he is talking to me in an informal way. I'm going to be 40yrs old on Oct. and since I known me I visited church and bible school, so I listen to those stories a millions times in different ways but never heard the "bad behavior analysis" like that! Makes me put in their situation, makes me felt like what if was me or a loved familiar.

For the first time I can relate to differents bible characters.

I'm so excited that I bought the other one about the same theme and read it in two days!

This book is full of stories from people of the Bible delivered in a way that Max Lucado does best. He walks readers through Biblical characters and their impact during the time in which they lived. Lucado uses this device as a helpful reminder that although readers today weren't alive in Biblical times our story can still be seen in the people of the Bible.

My Sunday School class was looking for a sound alternative to the "literature" used for the last several quarters. This book was recommended by a member of the class, and we were able to purchase a copy for each member. The editions arrived in marvelous condition and saved us 3/4 of what we were spending on unsatisfactory materials.

Max Lucado can put depth and personality into familiar Bible stories. He has the ability to relate our experiences to those of Biblical characters that we have not thought of before. The purpose is to bring us closer to the care, love, and power of God. This book is an easy but thought provoking read. The short chapters give time to ponder the message.

I loved this book:
1. Because Max Lucado has such a gifted, unique way of presenting Bible stories and Scriptural truths.
2. Because he stresses the fact that God loves us in spite of the things we have done and when we believe he forgives us.

Pretty good book. Makes you think. Takes biblical characters and situations and highlights the importance and lessons. Easy and insightful.
I buy all of Max Lucado's books. As usual his books give insight to the people that allows you to get the feeling "I know that person." His description allows you to relate to the characters and to get a fresh new view of how God loves each and everyone of us in a unique way. As with all books once you start it you will not put it down until it is finished. Mr. Lucado has been given a unique blessing from God in his ability to share God's truths through his writings.
