In "The Christmas Quilt" by Vannetta Chapman, Annie's nursing skills from "A Simple Amish Christmas" were not a waste of her time during her "rumspringa". She uses what she learned to help her community.
Annie and Leah (Annie's sister-in-law) are more than family, they are the best of friends. Both women are pregnant and expecting their first offspring--with lots of stories to share when Leah has a difficult pregnancy and they spend lots of time in the hospital and end up stitching together a baby quilt that was supposed to be a gift from Annie to Leah.
Much like the stories, they are stitched together with the nine fruits of the spirit--a "gut" idea according to Samuel, Annie's husband. This binds them together with their husbands, each other, other family members, their community and the medical workers around them.
When reading this book, I could feel the love that was so bountiful at a very special life event as well as the family ties that bind other family members together, such as Rachel and Onkel Eli. The Amish families are tight-knit and pull together as a community during the times of financial struggles.
This was a wonderful book stitched full of love. I have such respect for the Amish and their love for God and how they take care of their families--as Leah's husband says, "It only takes a few minutes to appreciate what Gotte has given. I hope everyone who reads "The Christmas Quilt" will love it as much as I did. Vannetta did a wonderful job.

Though this book is part of a series, each novel in it is a stand-alone story so they can be read in any order.

The characters are well developed and easy to relate with. There are two main couples that are the focal point of the story. At the beginning of the book they get married in a double wedding. We have Annie and her husband Samuel, who are part of the community’s “medical” care team. The second couple is Annie’s brother Adam and his new wife, Leah.

The story focuses on growth and maturing during a time of hardship. I truly enjoyed reading about how the whole community came around and helped the young family to deal with what they were going through. It was wonderful seeing how each person turned to God and sought Him and His help. He became their source of peace and strength.

One aspect of the story that I got so much pleasure out of was the series of stories that Annie and Leah were telling. They did have some help from others as they were going through the process of relating stories about the nine different gifts of the Holy Spirit as listed in Galatians 5:22-23. The way that Vannetta brought this into the story and then tied everything together with this was fantastic.

I like Vanetta Chapman stories and this does not disappoint! Sweet story of two women and their first pregnancies. Leah and Annie are friends and Sister-in-laws. Both of these characters are newly married. Annie wants to complete a quilt for Leah’s babies (expecting twins) by Christmas. There are health issues and just growing up issues. This story is beautifully stitched together with gospel truths, faith and love. I couldn’t put this book down. Definitely recommend.

So well written I don't want to give any ideas away. All quilts of Love books are so great I am learning. Can't wait to read the next.

I just finished The Christmas Quilt by Vannetta Chapman and am recommending it to anyone - no matter the genre you prefer. It's an enchanting story of the Amish lifestyle as well as their spirituality and even their wit and wisdom. It's also a great Bible study of Galatians 5:22-23. I read this on my Kindle, but, will be purchasing more as Christmas gifts - including gifts for my Amish friends.

If you want to get in the Christmas spirit for all the right reasons then this is the book for you! Follow Annie and Leah as they wait for the birth of twins. While sewing a quilt for the "bopplin" the girls share stories that bring them close to God and their own families.

I really enjoyed this book. It was interesting and also fun to read. I really enjoyed how the community comes together to help pay the hospital bills.
I just finished reading The Christmas Quilt. The stories within a story kept me wanting to know what the next square would reveal. Each square was a blessing. It was a wonderful way to start my Christmas reading! I have never read a book by Vannetta Chapman that I didn't enjoy. Her characters seem like old friends by the time you reach the final chapter and you don't want the story to end. Thank you so much for another great book! Merry Christmas!
