Only 7 left in stock (more on the way). Ave Maria Press has done all of us a great service by bringing back into print Clarence Enzler's My Other Self. I enthusiastically recommend this book as a companion on life's journey with Christ. -Most Reverend Donald W. Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington.

In My Other Self Clarence Enzler-author of the multi-million copy seller Everyone's Way of the Cross-guides readers in prayerful conversation with Christ wherein the reader is personally addressed as "my other self" and is urged to embody Christ's love and compassion to others.

In this intimate guide to the spiritual life, Christ speaks directly to the reader, whom Christ admonishes to be his presence of love and service in the world. Through this creative mode of dialogue, Enzler leads the reader through the journey of the Christian life, beginning with the call to live in friendship with Christ. He then examines the means of the Christian life: detachment, virtue, prayer, avoidance of sin, and the Eucharist.

John Enzler, pastor of the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Washington, .

In Which Christ Speaks to the Soul on Living His Life. My Other Self uses the methodology of Jesus (in first person 'I') having conversations with the author whom Jesus addresses as my other self (which can also be the reader). Published June 1940 by Dimension Books. Jesus explains to the author (and reader) how and why Jesus became human - so that all humans could become more like Jesus and thereby become His Other Self.

Modeled on the fifteenth-century classic The Imitation of Christ, this new edition of a little-known Enzler masterwork is revived for modern Christians. This new edition includes an introduction from the authors son, Msgr. John Enzler, pastor of the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Washington, D.C. In this intimate guide to the spiritual life, Christ speaks directly to the reader, whom Christ admonishes to be his presence of love and service in the world. Through this creative mode of dialogue, Enzler leads the reader through the journey of the Christian life, beginning with the call to live in friendship with Christ and fulfill Christs desire. He then examines the means of the Christian life: detachment, virtue, prayer, avoidance of sin, and the Eucharist. Finally he explores the goal of the journey: a life of union with Christ as his disciple and complete joy with him in eternity. Each chapter is divided into short, eloquent sections based on scripture and with beautiful prayers for meditation. These convenient divisions make the book ideal for use as a daily devotional, or a guide to prayer.

My Other Self: Conversations with Christ on Living Your Faith is a brilliant immersion in what the Gospel tells us about Jesus and about how we are to be His disciples. It is a book to pray with, sub-section by sub-section, and then reflect on -- a prayer book, not a read-through information book. With Jesus as the speaker throughout the book, the truth of what is said touches the reader's heart and draws him or her into the embrace of Christ. What once might have been clear to one's head about God's love now can become clear to his or her heart as well. I can't speak highly enough about this book!

There is one thing of particular note. Most books that provide spiritual direction have been written by priests or sisters -- people whose life structure differs from that of lay people. Clarence Enzler (1910-1976), the author of My Other Self: Conversations with Christ on Living Your Faith, was a lay man. He was married and he and his wife had 13 children. He worked for many years for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and for a time as the editor of Catholic News Service, so we can know that he lived his faith out "in the world" as do the majority of us. In his later years he earned a PhD from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and became a deacon for the Washington Archdiocese.

For those who like to pray the Stations of the Cross, Mr. Enzler also wrote a beautiful book of meditations titled Everyone's Way of the Cross. I recommend it and "My Other Self" very, very highly.

So glad to see this book back in print after having a copy over 40 years ago. Clarence Enzler is a master at "speaking" the words of Christ in the most loving fashion. This book is by far the best "devotional" every written. I would also recommend a book called "God Calling" by Two Listeners and edited by Russell. The modern attempts at devotionals like "Jesus Calling" just don't come close.

I have read this book many many times, I reference it often and I buy it as a gift at least once a year for someone. If only this book were required reading, this world would be a better place...

I have been reading it slowly, like one "chapter" at a time. Very nicely written and goes along with my beliefs.

This book takes a lot of time if you read it correctly because Christ is talking to you and asking you questions and they are not to be answered lightly. You feel, all the time, that He is really there with you and helping you through the many days of your life. At our Cathedral, we have used the Lenten Stations of the Cross from the same author and you can feel that he has a great way to awaken your faith with his written words.

EXCELLENT BOOK FOR THOSE WHO NEED A NEW LOOK AT THEIR CATHOLIC FAITH.
What a profound book, covering many aspects of deep spirituality, including advanced prayer and the way that God guides the soul that is ready for deep contemplation. The author touches on growth in virtue that is sure to impress the reader that he has walked the road personally. It is written in the first person, as though Jesus is talking directly to the reader.
