Tricia Guild creates fabrics and furnishings. Her stripes, florals and madras plaids are radiant on these pages. - "The New York Times" "The book's photographs, taken by David Montgomery, are so vivid and appealing that you can look at them time and time again. -"The Christian Science Monitor" "Known for her vivid use of colors, interior designer Tricia Guild has concocted an exuberant source book strewn with intense hues. It was also extraordinarily inexpensive. Although written in the early '90s, it remains a beautiful book to leaf through and has very readable text.

This is a beautiful book and well worth having

This is a beautiful book and well worth having. The color and pattern combinations are unusual and inspire one to sew! The downside is that there are virtually no instructions. You already need to have basic sewing knowledge and other sewing resources to do the projects. Definitely a cut above the average soft furnishings book in design and originality.

Interior designer Tricia Guild's stone farmhouse in Tuscany is on the market for £. 5m. Unsurprisingly, it's beautifully decorated. Newest Style Books I Love: The Best Design and Style Books, Summer 2017 My top picks: Rizzoli’s ‘Villa Astor’ and Flammarion’s ‘Christian Dior in the South of France The Chateau de la Colle Noire, along with Lannoo’s ‘Margiela The Hermès Years’ make for delicious viewing and vivid, highly detailed reading.

Lavish color photographs of gorgeous room settings are only the beginning. Spectacular soft furnishings that are also quick and easy to make are the focus of attention. Ideas on colors and patterns that will give you the confidence to tailor your projects to coordinate with, add life to, or draw together the decorative schemes in your home complete the picture. Inspiration and how-to--it's all here! Essential techniques--from hemming to inserting a zipper--are explained, and a directory of basic stitches is also included. Dress windows with a tie-on blind and curtains, lined curtains, a Roman blind, or a festoon blind. Make a cushion and give it flair with zippers and vents, piping, and trimming. Whip up a fringed tablecloth, placemats, and napkins. Sew bed curtains, a reversible quilt, and pillowcases. Try a baby towel and a changing mat. There are 40 soft furnishings altogether! 128 pages (all in color), 9 x 10 1/4.

I got this book as a Christmas gift twenty years ago and have turned to it again and again. I did have basic sewing knowledge, but I was a beginner. I started off with pillows, then moved into some of her simpler window treatments with great success. When we sold the house, the new owners begged to keep the window treatments that I had made, which I saw as a great success. As an American, I found her British phraseology to be charming (zip instead of zipper) without hindering the quality of the instructions. I highly recommend this book as a must have for anyone who wants to learn.
