This cookbook depends on artificial ingredients - butter buds, Equal, and so on - to make recipes diabetic 'friendly'. The main ingredient in the 'whole grains' muffins and breads turns out to be reduced-fat baking mix and off-the shelf cereal. Recipes that call for cans of refrigerated crescent rolls are also suspect. Fruit salads call for canned fruit. Condensed soup is another favorite of this author.

The research on real vs. artificial foods, especially for diabetics, is clear. Stick to the perimeter of the grocery store, eat your food as fresh as possible, and avoid anything in a box, a can, or that you can't pronounce. Dreadful cookbook.

I bought this book for a friend who was recently diagnosed with diabetes and is struggling with how to eat right. Unfortunately, the title of the book is completely misleading--this is anything BUT real food. Most of the recipes are made with artificial sweeteners or no-fat substitutes like ButterBuds. My friend was really excited when I first gave her the book but then after looking at it, brought it back to me, saying, "I don't eat this way. Can you send the book back?"

Shame on the author and publishing for the misleading title. I'm sure these recipes are helpful for some, but they aren't as advertised.

There's a big problem with this book. Many, many, many of the recipes call for "Butter Buds Mix". I went to the "Butter Buds" website and used their store locator to find a supermarket in or around Pittsburgh that carries the product. Drove to the site of the large chain store recommended and found no product. Tried Amazon and found that the product is "unavailable". Consumers on various websites state they have bought cases of the product only to find that it is not the same as the original. I am very sorry that I bought this book. The recipes look very inviting to someone with diabetes, but, what good is it without the availability to make them.

This book is not really for diabetics, it's for people who want a low-fat diet. Throughout, the emphasis is on fat, not carbohydrates. Also, I have a hard time thinking of combinations of instant and ready to eat junk as "real food".
An eggplant recipe with 0.4g fat, but 71.1g carbs.A half cup of potato salad with 0.5g fat, but 21.5g carbs. French fries with only 0.3g fat, but they still have he same carbs as any other french fries. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a re-titled diet book.

Real food? Better Buds? Molly McButter? Equal artificial sweetener? Canned cream soups? This cookbook was a real disappointment!

Great purchasing experience but my husband wasn't impressed with any of the recipes. Recommend seller highly but not book.

Recipes need seasoning.
Got this for my Dad after a new diabetes diagnosis and he has literally devoured the information and recipes in here. It gave him hope he could eat food that tasted good and still met his cravings and needs. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
