Endurance athletes often seek nutritional strategies inclusive of dietary supplements to maximize their performance. Effective supplement routines, however, are only beneficial when built on a sound training diet, training regimen, and an appreciation of dietary needs relative to their training schema. Nutritional supplements for immune health in athletes: proposed mechanism of action and evidence for efficacy. Supplements that assist an athlete to train harder, recover more quickly and prevent injury, or accelerate return to play when injury does occur can obviously enhance the athlete’s preparation and, indirectly, their competition outcomes.
