David V. Sheehan, . Dr. Sheehan explains the difference between the anxiety that most people experience and the type of anxiety and panic a person with this disease experiences

David V. The case histories he presents are very accurate to what I have experienced personally. The extreme terror of Panic attacks, fear of recurring attacks, the embarassment, guilt, avoidance issues, phobias, social, family and legal issues encountered, frustration, and eventually helplessness, depression, and alcohol or drug abuse is clearly and accurately described. Sheehan explains the difference between the anxiety that most people experience and the type of anxiety and panic a person with this disease experiences.

Scribner, 1983 - Anxiety. Describes the symptoms and seven stages of this severe disease, discusses the four steps to recovery, and provides guidance for families and friends.

Bought this because my psychiatrist recommended it. I found it was somewhat childish in the situations it presented and the writing style. I found "A Mind of Your Own" by Kelly Brogan, MD and think it's a much better book about anxiety and depression. If you're looking for solutions and a way to take control of your anxiety, I recommend the latter. If you want a book that describes what it's like to have anxiety "The Anxiety Disease" does that.

I had suffered from symptoms of panic disorder for nearly 20 years and NOBODY could identify what was going on. I joined a support group and learned about this book which was fairly new when I first read it. When I read the case study that was in the book I finally understood what had been going on with me. I made an appointment with a doctor who had talked to this support group and recommended the book. That was twenty two years ago. Once diagnosed and treated properly I've been able to lead a normal life pretty much free of symptoms. Unfortunately there are genetic links with this disorder and a few weeks ago my son now 29 had started having symptoms. I ordered a copy for him and got him an appointment with the Doctor who had helped me. The book is a little dated now but still very relevant and an excellent book still recommended highly by the National Anxiety Foundation.
