When planet pirates attack the space liner on which she is traveling, Luzie Mespil escapes the doomed vessel in a lifeboat and drifts through space, frozen in cryogenic sleep, for much longer than she had ever expected. Reprint.

This is not the complex world-building of Mccaffrey's earlier books. Lunzie, the protagonist, is most developed, but other characters really don't get a chance, as Lunzie moves through the decades in cold sleep. The enemy—the planet pirates—are barely one-dimensional, with no explanation of motivation or goals.
The aliens are interesting, and some are worth a bit more backstory than we get. Nevertheless, it is an entertaining read.

Love the Planet Pirates series. I'd recommend The Death of Sleep first, then the 2 Ireta adventures (Dinosaur Planet and Dinosaur Planet survivors, also in a 2 book format: The Mysteries of Ireta). Next I'd read Sassinak, and then finish with Generation Warriors. This series is about family and integrity. Doing what is right in complex situations isn't always easy. Nor is finding love and purpose in life! Anyway, these books are a good series to read, more story-oriented than tech-specific oriented (unlike David Weber's Honor Harrington series). A definite shift from her Pern series, but very enjoyable.

Haunting story than resounds with truths about development of the characters than give insight into the real lives we live. A wonderful story with great characters well written. I gain I site to personal character and life development every time I read this entertaining engaging sci fi book and it's accompanying books by Anne mccaffery. Worth rereading a at intervals. Wonderful read. I own physical book, however having this available while traveling in digital form was worth the extra purchase.

I liked the pacing, and as always, I liked the character complexity of the story line. Some good intrigue to keep me interested and wanting to read the next book.

While I have never read any of McCaffrey's Dragon books, I am well-pleased with her other series, including this one. Always keeps me entertained.

Ya, not really McCaffery, but a good background on Lunzie.

Timeless Anne Mccaffrey book. Any SF book by her is worth reading and appropriate for teens as well as adults. Her books are the ones that when I want a " beach" read (no concentration necessary but will keep my attention to the end) I grab. Bought has hard back and rebought as ebook, and gave hardback to a friends teenage daughter.
The Planet Pirates series has always been among my favorites. Combined with the Dinasaur Planet books, you get the full treasure of Lunzie and Sassinak's family saga. I highly commend both the author and, in particular, this story line. Though they each stand alone beautifully, the reader will much increase the reading pleasure by including both series in the experience. Do so, and you will become a McCaffrey fan for life. I promise.
