The Star of Texas Cookbook.

The Star of Texas Cookbook. One reason that I think that is is so great is that unlike the cookbooks now published, below each recipe is the name of the person who contributed it. Each recipe was tested by a group of League members so the ingredients and instructions are correct.

My mom cooked from it throughout my childhood, and now I cook from it today - thanks to the hand-me-down copy from my grandmother, lovingly filled with notes made in her pencil-perfect writing. The Star of Texas Cookbook, published in 1983, parallels our city's commitment to both our own heritage and our global community. Recipes in this one generally fall into one of two categories: They reflect the gamey meats and seasonal produce from our area, or they've got an international flair.

Just love older cookbooks & this was a gem! Some surprise recipes i havent been able to find for years & just as I remember them not loaded with sugr like the newer versions! Great example i found the Orange julius recipe I used to just love! Yummy! A surprise, Texas has truly changed over the years. Now at least 50-60% of the recipes i findin Texas cookbooks are Mexican based. These recipes consisted of very few Mexican based recipes & what was included really did not resemble Mexican recipes. Cookbooks can be a bit of history, engraved in the foods of the different eras. It is not a commentary on correctness, just on our changes. Perhaps as muchas looking at a chop suey recipe from. That era to the Asian recipes we enjoy now.
Every girl in my family has a copy of this book. The recipes are wonderful and not run-of the mill. It also includes great menu guides. Some of the best recipes are Rich and Charlie's Salad, Brazilian Chicken, and Texas Pecan Balls, but there are many more equally delicious.
Nice cookbook

I have used this book so many times over the years, especially the Mexican Food section. Try Chicken Enchiladas with Tomatillo Sauce and Boo's Puerto Rican Flan ----Delicious!
Exactly what my wife was looking for.
the monster
I actually purchased this in an airport in Dallas back in the 90's on the fly and haven't regretted it one day since! Every single recipe I've tried from this book is an absolute winner! I can trust that no matter what I try from it, will taste amazing! If you're like me you have cookbooks you buy and use for a recipe or two. They then wind up collecting dust and taking up room on a shelf somewhere. Not so with this one! It's permanently on my cookbook stand in my kitchen for years now and is my " go to" when looking for something special. The desserts especially are to die for! Each section is divided into types of food with a section devoted to suggested menus. Don't hesitate on the purchase of this one! You won't regret it!
