This is a large format graphic novel, printed in 2008. It reprints a story titled "The Phantom of Notre Duck" from Uncle Scrooge #60 from 1965. When I read my first Uncle Scrooge comic book as a kid, it was that main cover story that is reprinted in this issue. Uncle Scrooge 60 was included in a grab bag from Gold Key comics in the late 1960's. The story burned into my mind and I became a fan of the artist, without knowing who he was since the Disney comic stories were all unsigned. Like other kids, I only knew Carl Barks as the "good duck artist", but did not know his name until many years later. The Phantom of Notre Duck is a 24 page adventure story had all the hallmarks of what I learned to look for in Uncle Scrooge comics, adventure, humor, tons of detail, the unbelievable riches of Uncle Scrooge, and the resourceful nephews that were kids... like me (back then). It was a story that Barks wrote and drew towards the end of a career of over 20 years of drawing the ducks. I love this story to this day, although I know now there are many better stories than this one written the year before Barks retired in 1966.
There are 3 more stories in this book that I will leave to other reviewers to cover, but the image on the cover of the book brought back a flood of memories for me.
Steelraven
This book features one of Carl Barks' classic stories "The Phantom of Notre Duck". While reprinted many times, this new reprint comes with Barks' original cover which has been magnificently colored. Also there is a magnificent Don Rosa back cover you should not miss. It comes along with a few more recent tales from the powerhouse Egmont. They cannot reach Barks' classic tales and no artist will ever do that.
As for Rosa's story Guardians of the Lost Library, which should be published later this year, I actually believe it is one of the weakest stories of this great modern Duck artist.
Otrytrerl
Due to a publishing re-shuffle, "Guardians of the Lost Library" etc. are not in this issue. Gemestone says that they will appear in issue #383. And 379 and 383 will have different covers than are shown at Amazon.
