This book is a down to earth grass roots story of former Detroit City Council President Erma L. Henderson. She touched a lot of people with the work that she implemented during her years as City Council President. Many were blessed by her help. I had the honor of having her to autograph the book by Erma herself while she was still alive. In the last years of her life, she had been classified as being legally blind, but was still in her right mind. This is a part of Detroit history that I will cherish.

Having completed Ms. Henderson's memoirs leaves me with a fresh understanding of the history of Detroit. She provides an inside perspective of an intelligent woman who faced insurmountable barriers to survive let alone achieve a political voice. She reveals her spiritual beliefs and an inner strength that are an inspiration to all women. This is an uplifting accounting of life in Detroit and will encourage all who read it to appreciate their strength and beliefs as they work to make the world a brighter, safer and equitable enviroment for all.
