I had the opportunity to meet the author of this book at her shop in "Old Town" at Florence, Oregon. I really enjoyed talking to her, and when a customer came into her shop checking to see if she (Judith) had written any new books, and telling everyone how much she loved the books Judith writes, I decided I had to get this book. Unfortunately I have not had the time to read it yet, so I cannot give a review on this book.

Outstanding story telling and great writing. I bought this book because it sounded like an interesting concept, not just a rehash of The Little Mermaid story. I wasn't disappointed and will buy the next book in this three book series as soon as I see it offered. As a master scuba diver I really love being under the water and have always been facinated by mermaids and their folklore. Ms. Gilman seemed to effortlessly weave great underwater scenes with an almost believable touch of fantasy to create what I consider one of the best mermaid tales I've ever read. I enjoyed this more than Mermaid's Song by Alida Van Gores which seems to be the mermaid book to judge all others by. The only thing I would like is a little more interaction with the ocean creatures and maybe not always make the sharks the bad guys. A little more action/adventure throughout the story, not just the last couple chapters would also be nice for guys like me. Still a FIVE STAR book just the way it is. Here's hoping Judy Gilman follows up this story with the other two she says are planned in her author's note at the end of her book and the publisher is smart enough to put them on the market.

I absolutely love Ms. Gilman and he books! I've probably read this masterpiece at least 15 times. I am in love with mermaids and their lore and this book really captured their essence in my opinion. I have to say it's my favorite book I have ever read. I've had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful woman multiple times since I'm a native Oregonian and visit Old Town Florence quite often. Her shop is gorgeous and honestly one of my favorites in all of Florence. Ms. Gilmans book is so well written and full of magic and wonder I feel blessed to have the opportunity to not only read it but get it signed by the author. If you're ever in Old Town Florence Oregon I highly recommend you stop by her beautiful shop and read her amazing books!

I live in Springfield Oregon, and I love to go to Heceta Head. I often hear the sea lions from there. I wonder if I hear Ohnalee the Mermaid, so I was excited when I was at Old town florence and saw Judith's shop with Ohnalee displayed on a poster. I went in and bought her book and just love the story. It was not a fairytail like "The littlist Mermaid", but seemed more real and possible. She signed my book personally, and the next time I was down in Florence, I bought her second book "Mermaids of the Siuslaw" and was not disappointed. They are so close to home, I feel like it is real. Joy Strasser

I am eleven years old. I bought this book from the author from her shop in Florence, OR.

I thought it was really good because it was based off of the journal that Ohnalee wrote. I also really liked it being based in Florence, OR, where I have gone to visit often through-out my life. I liked the magic and the poem at the end of the book.

I found it very entertaining, I have read it numerous times. I can hardly wait to read more books by this author. KJ
