George Melnyk is an Alberta author and professor of Canadian Studies in the Faculty of Communication and Culture at the University of Calgary. His teaching focus is Canadian film. He has published numerous books on regional, national, and international topics, including Canada and September 11 (Detselig, 2002) and Canada and the New American Empire (University of Calgary Press, 2004). George Melnyk is well known as an essayist, of which his latest collection is New Moon at Batoche, also published by the Banff Centre Press (2000).
