Road to Havla is the sequel to Beyond Seaside. Both are absorbing tales of adventure and fantasy for readers ten and up. Vibrant, compelling characters, along with plenty of suspense and humor, combine to make Road to Havla an exciting read. The story continues to follows Will and his three companions. Their flight from Seaside is evolving instead into a journey to Havla. None of them actually wants to go to Havla...except maybe for Jornan, who is driven onward by a strange secret he learned even before he left his home. They all know Havla to be a terrible place-with black mines and slaves, blood-thirsty gangs of enforcers, and something quite sinister inhabiting the great castle. And...or so they've heard...getting there might be the worst part of all. But Will is stubbornly determined to try. Although he is still unable to remember his earlier life, he now knows exactly who he is. He's coming to terms with it, which hasn't been easy. He's also coming to accept certain responsibilities. Most of these happen to await him in Havla. His friends insist on coming along. Their travels take them through wild, uncharted places. Things get really strange on a stormy night when they take refuge in an (apparently) abandoned cabin. And they become wondrous with the discovery of a legendary hidden valley. The return of an ancient gift, new revelations, and the gathering of an unlikely band of allies prepare them to complete the journey. They come finally to Havla...where they learn that they have been expected.

I came across the first book, "Beyond Seaside," quite by accident as I searched for titles by my favorite author, CS Lewis. As I read the first chapter, I honestly thought I was reading a book by him. I figured it was a rare hidden gem I had simply missed previously. I was shocked when I looked again at the cover to see it was not his work. I realized I was hooked and had to keep reading. Well, I loved it so much, the second I finished it, I purchased this one.

My favorite quote from this book is, "It's a favored technique of all that is evil to attempt to steal from others their true identities. Evil understands, you see, that those who don't know who they are are much weaker than those who do." I have found great wisdom in the midst of a wonderful book I read simply for the pleasure of it. This quote rings true of the enemy of my soul and I was thrilled to see it brought to light here. It made me even more thrilled to know who I am in Christ. God is so good.

There is romance, adventure, and mystery throuhout the book. I literally had to pull myself away a few times. Great writing- so descriptive and it flows so well.

I am honestly sad it is over, but I will definitely readit again. It is on the shelf next to my favorite CS Lewis books!

Fun, easy to read fantasy, built for the age group. A good deal of good natured humour. The thing that strikes me as unconvincing (remember it is fantasy and this duology has every fantasy critter and more) is the way the book deals with death... If we're to believe these are kids then their reactions should be a little more honest and less brushed over even for a young audience. The second book really lets the plot flail about while focusing way too heavily on the main characters. I simply expected the bad guys to be fleshed out in this book and they remained completely two dimensional plot devices with absolutely no reason for their bad deeds. Way too many unexplained coincidences and loose ends and decisions without reasoning... This could have been a much better story. Unlike the first, it felt rushed and unrealistic. The author can obviously write very well and could have done a much better job with this story.

Very entertaining, descriptive, we'll written story that involves you with the characters and the plot. Love that it teaches about life: the good and bad, choices and consequences, attitudes and character. Great read for adolescents to adults. Recommended highly.

Kept my interest, didn't know what would happen around the corner. would recommend for young readers, if they like magic and whimsical reading material.

Easy to read and a good sequel to Beyond Seaside. The ending leaves you wanting to know more about the future of the main characters.

fun read, I wished the story would just go on and on. the ending was abrupt and caught me off guard, but well worth the read

This the BEST book ever and I loved it.Road to Havla and Beyond Seaside are my favorite book on my Kindle and I think CL Dautel is a really good author
For those who love quirky characters, ROAD TO HAVLA has an old man who welcomes the travelers into his cabin but only speaks to them indirectly, through a gray goose named Gertie.
For those who love battles, there is a great one that involves pirate ghosts, raven and eagles, barbarians, swordsmen and archers.
For those who love to see good triumph over evil, this group of young people develop a strong friendship, help Will discover his identity and save a city from unspeakable evil.
Ah yes, and there is a little romance as well.
Great stuff!
