Chapter One. The willowy blond was spotlighted in the center of the stage, her long platinum hair gleaming, her soft blue eyes half-closed and faintly sultry as she sang. Her voice, as clear and soulful as a bell in late evening, held the audience spellbound. Heather Shaw was only twenty, but she had the stage presence of a much older performer. This was her first big break, though by no means her first performance.

Another Palmer tug and pull between an arragant man, yet with sole wounds, and a woman who must make her own way in order to find herself and who she is. Palmer seems to had a good handle on what makes good dynamics between men who have been hurt in some soulful way and women trying to not be pulled under by a strong domineering man. These two books, Heather's Song and Tender Stranger are two of her best that are simple messages that are all so important.

If you enjoy reading romance, this book Heather Song by Diane Palmer makes a great choice to read. I had read this books a few years ago and lost my copy. I was unable to find it in any used book stores, until I found it on Amazon!
There's a lot of things in this book that I liked, and there's a lot that I really didn't like. I thought the first half of the novel was pretty good. The relationship between Heather and Cole starts out great. It's a story about a step-brother and sister who start to have feelings for each other. Cole is a typical DP alpha male, and Heather is likable enough (at least at first). The best thing about this story is how DP shows the transition from a platonic relationship to a romantic relationship.

Then, enter in the jealous, scheming ex-girlfriend and all goes wrong in this book. I hated where the plot went halfway through. Cole turns from a sexy, intelligent character, into a complete idiot. Even when he realizes his mistakes, he still cannot admit he was wrong, and continues screwing everything up, which was annoying since this lasted up until the last two pages of the novel.

Other annoying aspects of this book were Heather's repetitive need to whine about how innocent she was, and how sex to her is like the scariest thing ever. If you're looking for some steaminess, this is not the book for you - there is none. Also, Cole's smoking habit is a huge turn-off, especially the way DP uses it to try and make him look sexy. I literally took a black marker to my copy of the novel and blacked out all the parts where Cole is puffing away (which unfortunately is in almost every scene he's in).

I will say that with all the flaws in this book, I do find myself rereading it from time to time. I usually read the first half then skim the rest since the second half of the book is so awful. As I said, there are some things in this book that DP did really well. Unfortunately, other aspects of the novel prevent it from being a great read.
