Out of the Fire book. But, it was well written, and the scenes were nicely done. I will definitely be looking for more of Ms. Tachna’s stories in the future.

An established and respected Dom in the BDSM scene, he isn't looking for a sub, a slave, or a 24/7 relationship. Evan Nichols likes his nice, quiet life in Boston. An established and respected Dom in the BDSM scene, he isn't looking for a sub, a slave, or a 24/7 relationship. Then a phone call from his best friend and fellow Dom, Rhys Calhoun, shakes up his comfortable routine. Rhys needs Evan's help to rehabilitate an abused sub-a sub Rhys has fallen in love with. Evan has misgivings, but he could never say no to Rhys, any more than Rhys would ever refuse to help him. Before he knows it, Evan finds himself at Rhys's home in Las Vegas with a sub who can barely stand to be in the same room with him and a Dom whose emotional involvement threatens his control. Add in the sexual attraction that's always simmered between Evan and Rhys, and it's a situation that has the potential to go very, very wrong. Determined to heal both Takoda and Rhys, Evan doesn't realize how many assumptions about his own life will be called into question as he tries to help them find their way forward together.

I have read many gay Dom/Sub stories...with and without the abused sub - so I was looking forward to this novel.
The author was very knowledgeable about the lifestyle or did exhaustive research because the novel was almost too analytical, too psychological, too much like a 'how to' or how not to...She seemed to bombard the reader with her extensive knowledge ..ad nauseum.

Every sentence by the characters, every paragraph, every playroom scenario was discussed and over analyzed, over-talked to the point where.......it sucked the life out of the story and the heat and any erotiscm out of the characters. They were not sexy, and I couldn't connect with any of them.

I wish she had spent more time describing them and less talking about why a dom does this and why a sub asks for this. I felt like screaming,"Just do it!"

It was exhausting to read. Boring. Each character talked in terms of what the dom and sub lifestyle was all about. The character development was hijacked in favour of the author bombarding the reader with the psychological mind set of Dom and sub.

The abused sub, Takoda did not seem abused but rather well adjusted. A lot of reference to the abuser Kade, but no closer from that thread. The dom in charge of him was a mental mess who was given more time in the book than the abused sub! Then the abused sub was spouting off on what to do etc.

There was supposed to be a special 'ownership and collaring' ceremony, but that fizzled.

so many threads.......so little cloth.

In short, I would not recommend this book. The only heat is the word 'Fire' in the title.

I need to respectfully disagree with the reviewer who wrote a 2 star review. This is a great book and while not as good as her Vampire books (and few could be) it is a very well written m/m romance. The previous review didn't like the plot premise but said it was well written anyway. I agree it was well written and disagree about the plot concerns. Read this, enjoy it and even more importantly. read the Partnership in Blood series by this author, one of the best m/m paranormal series I have ever read.

Out of the Fire is about the world of BDSM and what could happen if someone doesn't know enough about that world to stay safe.

I liked this book very much. The story is good, and the three primary characters are compelling. The story is told from Evan's point of view, but it centers around Takoda and his recovery. Author Ariel Tachna handles the crime committed against him with equal parts clear-eyed honesty and tact. His recovery is slow but he is very brave, and insists on moving forward to get what he wants. I found his courage inspiring.

Evan and Rhys have a long and interesting relationship: both are Doms, creating some interesting friction. Rhys wants a lot more than friendship from Takoda, so he is intermittently a quivering mess from watching Takoda suffer so, and the Dom that he is at heart. Evan does his best to keep Rhys on an even keel. Since they've been friends for so long, Evan doesn't let him get away with anything. Their dialogue is touching and often funny.

My criticism of this book is that I thought it "ended" more than once. There were two places in the story when I mistakenly believed we were headed for a conclusion. For me, it made the really wonderful ending a bit anti-climactic. That said, everything was resolved very nicely.

While this book is solidly in the Gay/BDSM genre, there's something in it for just about everybody who has a kink. There is also a great deal of insight into the mind of a submissive, so if you've wondered, start here. - Pearle LeVenin
????????????????????????
This book was very well written with a great story. It kept my interest and I didn't skim through parts of it as I have a tendency to do at times since so many books follow a predictable routine.

Not only did I enjoy this book for the story, it also opened my eyes to things that will allow me to more appreciate all BDSM books I read in the future.

Excellent story highlighting the impact abuse can have on those who love the victim and how they suffer as badly in different ways. I loved the insight into the thought behind a successful session when every little detail could affect the mental health of both dom and sub. Also loved the notion that abuse shouldnt be allowed to affect the way the guys lived their lives. If they stuck to vanilla against their natures the abuser would win. A cracking good read and lots to think about.

I am going to try very very hard not to put any spoilers in my review and I apologize in advance if I will not be completely successful. I am just not hundred percent sure if what I am going to say next may be construed as spoiler, but I do not think so.

The blurb says that this book is about BDSM, so I do not think it is spoiler. It is well written, I think. However, however, no way I believed that after what happened to Tacoda he would want to get involved in the similar activities so soon, even if those activities are supposed to be with the people who love him.

Thumbs down for me unfortunately.
