No. I’m going to look in the library for those cave symbols and unless the answer immediately presents itself, I’m going home.

Will you be staying on the island? Dark asked, and she shook her head. No. Elvyrn? No, Kett said patiently. In the mountains, with the dragons. They don’t ask annoying questions, she added in an undertone. They don’t speak at all, Chance said, rolling her exquisite eyes.

Baelvar is gorgeous, charming, insane, childish and mildly psychotic. He’s also mated to Kett, who’s brilliant, bitchy, violent and more than a little psychotic herself. It’s a match made in heaven, except for one tiny detail… Kett doesn’t want to be mated to anyone. The Curse of Kett has befallen everyone she’s ever cared about, but impressing this fact upon Bael is a little difficult, what with all the terrifically explosive sex getting in the way. Oh, and the repeated attempts on Kett’s life from persons unknown are a bit distracting too. Still, if they can just stop shagging and fighting for their lives for two seconds, surely she can convince Bael they’re actually a match made in hell. Can’t she?

Kett has been called bitchy, mad, violent and even brilliant but most people have never learned that Kett has a soft area on the inside just waiting for a way to express itself. Did I mention that she is also a shape shifter? Circumstances of her birth and childhood made it so that Kett developed her rough and tough exterior very young. Now for the most part she just wants to be left alone with her dragons. So how did she wake up hanging naked with a stranger?

Baelvar (Bael) is a wealthy landowner and a Nasc. Bael has never really known his people because he has a secret that he believed would get him killed by them - he has magic. Since his parents were killed when he was young, Bael only knows what he can remember and what was told to him by an advisor who helped raise him. He just can't figure out why he is naked and tied up with a woman he has never seen before. However, Bael would love to get to know her much, much better.

Kett's wicked, sarcastic tongue keeps Bael a bit off balance. After a few days together, they go their separate ways and try to regain their lives before whatever happened to bring them together. Bael is shocked to discover that he has mated with Kett, or so he believes and tracks her down to see if it's true. Kett never expected to see her handsome co-captive again and isn't really happy when he shows up on her doorstep. Bael is not a man to be ignored and he is going to get Kett in one place to listen to him no matter what. Both Bael and Kett are soon involved in the madcap adventure that is life for her family. This leads to passion, betrayals on both sides, and a hurt that threatens to separate Kett and Bael forever. After a lifetime of disappointments and betrayals, can Kett and Bael find a way back to each other?

When you are suddenly handed happiness, would you know to grab it and hold on? Mad, Bad & Dangerous does more than ask this question. Kett and Bael both had anything but a normal and happy childhood but when the fates give them a chance it almost fell apart. I have to say that I instantly loved the sarcastic sharp wit and the humor that wrapped though the entire story. Both Kett and Bael were lovable just because they had faults and frailties. Just keeping track of the Kett's family was enough to keep me chuckling and then you add in Kett and Bael's adventures and it was extremely engrossing. Mad, Bad & Dangerous has humor, hot sex, suspenseful plot and loveable characters that will make it a keeper for your library.

If you're here because you've read Almost Human, you already know what a fantastic storyteller Cat Marsters is. If you haven't read Almost Human, never mind, get Mad, Bad and Dangerous RIGHT NOW and you can catch up later (it's set in the same fictional worlds, but order of reading is not important).

Mad, Bad and Dangerous starts at Cat's usual cracking pace with lots of problems for her gorgeous hero and heroine to solve - not least of which being finding out who's trying to kill them before they succeed. And it never lets up, with loads of twists and turns that throw Kett and Baelvar together and apart. Cat's worlds are brilliantly depicted, there's a great cast of characters, and wonderful, funny dialogue that zips through the pages.

Now, I may cause riots, but if I were forced to choose (oh, please, someone put me in this conundrum), I'd personally prefer to be mated to Baelvar more than I would Dark (Almost Human's hero) as he's probably perfect - the expected gorgeous, devoted, funny and dangerous, with just enough little boy lost to make you want to cuddle him when you weren't having hot sex. BUT, I don't grudge him Kett (honest) since they are perfect for each other. They sizzle and spark all the way through and I love them both. Kett is flawed but completely understandable and I nearly cried when she screws up at the "Make it go away," line.

In short, Mad, Bad and Dangerous is simply superb. Well done, Cat, and get a move on with the next, please.

Cat Marsters pulled me in as a reader with Almost Human. I was happy to see MB&D finally hit the shelves. I wasn't sure how she was going to make it work for Kett, but she managed to do so. Again with the crazy mad writing style, with twist and turns in plot, and dark evolving characters. Even the opening scene has you cringing with shock, because I sure as hell don't want to wake up that way. Kett's mean and snarky. She's got a chip on her shoulder and rightly so. I had to keep reading to see why and how Bael was putting up with her. It gets pretty physical, and that's just the way you want it when you're reading Cat's work.
