Blood Lines

An evil being has been sealed away for centuries in a sarcophagus never meant to be opened, waiting patiently for his chance to rise again. Now, brought to the Egyptology Department of Toronto’s Royal Ontario Museum, the seals and spells that imprisoned him chipped away from his discoverers, he has reached forth to claim the minds and souls of Toronto’s unsuspecting citizens. And only three people had any sense that something was wrong…

For Henry Fitzroy, it began with terrifying images of the sun, a marker of death for a vampire. Fearing for his sanity, he turns to his sometimes-lover, private investigator Vicki Taylor, for help. As the two struggle to cope with Henry’s obsession, Vicki’s closest friend and former partner Mike Celluci, is following up on two mysterious deaths at the museum, certain that a force from beyond the grave is responsible for everything.

Blood Pact

Vicki Nelson has suffered a tragic loss—one that may prove to be more horrifying than she ever imagined…

Vicki Nelson has received the call that no daughter ever wants to receive—that her mother has died. Marjory Nelson’s coworkers at the Queen’s University Life Science Department told her that she suffered a heart attack, and that they’d be waiting for Vicki to arrive in Kingston to make the funeral arrangements. But what begins as a personal tragedy turns into the most terrifying case of Vicki’s career, when her mother’s body disappears mysteriously from the funeral home. Someone at the University is determined to learn the secret of life after death…and they’ve decided to make Vicki’s mother part of their horrifying experiments.

Okay, I had a few minor problems. The ending seemed a bit rushed, as though Huff couldn't decide which was the real story here--Vicki's relationship with her mother, or her changing relationship with Mike and Henry. Maybe she didn't want to look at Vicki as she became a vampire. And it bugs me that the resolution depends on one of the mad scientists getting drunk, revealing all, then getting herself killed, with all the evidence of various crimes and vampirism conveniently destroyed.

On the other hand, Vicki acts pretty much the way you'd want to see a detective act under bizarre circumstances. Mike and Henry are supportive, and combative, and manage to cooperate without turning into best friends. Henry is a vampire who has to deal with his weaknesses, and has a life grounded in reality. The detective work looks like actual work and helps drive the plot. The story kept me turning the pages and it will do the same for you.

This looked good and boy what scary stories. Am reading book nr 4 at the moment but needed a brake during nr 3 as it was very erie and wanted more cosy stuff to read at christmas (Chose The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper, Have read it so many times but love the "first" where Will gets his powers on his 11 birthday and it's christmas. Will read the rest of the sequence when the summer comes ;) ).
Just finished book 3 and i was very good but left me with the erie feeling. The baby was so sad and scared me. Will remember it and the way it made me feel for a long time.

Both the books in this edition are creepier than the first two in Huff's Blood series. Her writing grew and matured in these books, compared to the first one, and her skill is much better. This book is one of the good ones for sure. I love the prices compared to new books and the quality of the books seems very accurate as stated in the listings. I recommend this book highly for its content.

This the third and fourth book in the series. I enjoyed them very much. Unfortunately I don't know where she can go from the end of the last one but am looking forward to finding out.
One of Tanay Huff's best yet! There was a change in her style for this book and added mystery. A real page turner. I love her chacters and how they interact with each other. A must read for any vampire lover.
