I especially loved this book because so many of the other Rogues participate in the story. It is also great to see Dare returned to health after being treated so badly in "The Devil’s Heiress"

Only 3 left in stock (more on the way). I especially loved this book because so many of the other Rogues participate in the story. It is also great to see Dare returned to health after being treated so badly in "The Devil’s Heiress". He also has the two children he had cared for in that story and fights to maintain custody of them. Mara's love is instrumental in his overcoming the last stages of getting free from the drugs effects.

She saw none, so she pushed her foolish worries aside and took his arm to go outside. She expected the phaeton again, but found a closed carriage. She expected the phaeton again, but found a closed carriage gentleman was not quite right. I made sure George didn’t object, he said. I could take that as a challenge, Mara retorted, continuing on. And I pray you’ll behave. She settled on the crimson brocade seat. I rather like the idea of being a dangerous lady.

To Rescue A Rogue book. See a Problem? We’d love your help.

Lady Mara St. Bride has never backed down from a good adventure, which was how she wound up roaming the streets of London in the middle of the night, wearing nothing but a shift and corset beneath an old blanket. Luckily, her brother’s oldest friend, the devilishly sexy Lord Darius Debenham, answered her plea for help.

Mary Josephine Beverley (née Dunn; 22 September 1947 – 23 May 2016) was a prolific English-Canadian writer of historical and contemporary romance novels from 1988 to 2016.

Mara St. Bride is determined to help Lord Darius Debenham, a friend of her brother's with whom she is secretly in love and a survivor of the Battle of Waterloo, to overcome his troubled past and his addiction to opium.

This is a great story. The Rogues are 12 school friends who banded together to protect each other from bullies. Now they are adults and all have suffered to some extent from the war with Napoleon. This particular book focuses on the story of Dare Debenham who had not returned from the war. Everyone assumed he was dead and his parents especially mourned the loss. Several of the Rogues also were particularly saddened at his loss because they felt he had joined the fight because they had. In a previous book, "The Devil's Heiress", they learned he was still barely alive due to the work of a French spy they had dealt with before. She had taken Dare in while he was recovering from being trampled by a horse during the battle of Waterloo, and proceeded to get him addicted to opium. It is months later and he is trying to get off the drug but the final stages are so terrible many people expect him to have to continue taking the drug for the rest of his life.

He has come to London to try to force himself to partake in activities with his friends. So far he has turned down all invitations and stayed to himself until a childhood friend, sister to his best friend, shows up on his doorstep in her shift and corset and an old blanket wrapped around her. Lady Mara St. Bride, who had always been impulsive, has gotten herself into trouble again. She was shoeless and could not walk the mile to her sister's house where she was staying. Then she remembered Dare's address a few blocks away and went there knowing he would always help her. Now that she is no longer the child he remembered, sparks are lit. Although he tries to not form any attachment he finds Mara irresistible. He feels he is dangerous to her because when it is time to take a dose of the opium he gets restless and can lose control of himself. The rest of the book is the story of how they meet many almost overwhelming challenges but continue to work through the problems with the help of the other Rogues.

There is an interesting letter to the readers at the end of the book where the author explains how she researched the issue of opium addiction. Overall, a great story.

There are some explicit premarital sex scenes but they are well written and fit into the story. I would rate the book "R" due to the sex. The rest of the story is sweet and romantic.

I have seen addiction and can understand the reasons behind it. I have been dealing with pain since two weeks old and it gets worse every second.

If I weren't so allergic to all medications I more than likely would be addicted. However I can only take one pain medicine to take the edge off, even that doesn't work well. When it builds up in my system I vomit violently. It is a pain medication that isn't addictive however.

That being said, this story of Dares battle to free himself from the beast was extremely well written. Mara was wonderful in her love and faithfulness to Dare. Love is wonderful even with all the problems.

On to the next book.

This Rogue adventure involves Dare and Mara who have known each other since childhood. Mara finds herself in trouble one night and turns to Dare for help. Dare helps her. He is addicted to opium. Mara realizes she loves Dare, but he is afraid he might not be able to overcome his addiction. There several problems that arise for the couple, but the Rogues help solve them.

As always, the delineations of H/h and their settings in families and friends and the country homes are thorough, and lovingly done. I was drawn in to Dare's fight to beat his addiction and Mara's fight to help him. The two war orphans' slowly-growing security in Dare's love and Mara's sensitivity to their emotions is beautifully done as well. And so relevant to us. All that made leaving this book's world bearable was that I can return to it anytime.

Beverly novels have a lttle intrigue, a little mystery, a litle love, a little of everything and never over the top. I find them light and a nice break from my other non fictional reading. There is never too much sexual content which I appreciate. The best part is most of the novels have connecting characters. I like that. There is nothing worse then wondering what happens to someone in their future. With her many novels the characters continue throughout so you always know who got married, who had kids, etc. I have really enjoyed her writing style and the characters.

This is a 'wounded hero' tale, done very well. Both hero and heroine are admirable from the start (after one opening foolish move by the heroine, from which she extracts herself), and their personalities mesh beautifully. This is a warm-hearted story; loving and real.

I could not finish the book. It had what looked would be a great story and a wonderful H and supporting characters. However the entire package is ruined by the horribly immature, stupid, juvenile h.
The ROGUE series has been great. This is my second best book of it. Drug addicted Lord Darius, Waterloo veteran, fights his addiction to opium, and to Lady Meta. The sexual content was clean. It was heartbreaking to read as Darius went through the withdraws of he drug and heartwarming to read Mira's devotion to Darius.
