An amateur gypsy/Roma boxer is jailed for five years for accidentally killing his opponent in an illegal fight. Meanwhile, the family of the boxer he killed wants another match and gets his estranged father to put up his savings as the stake.

When he gets out, all he wants is a chance to start a new life and redeem himself. But a tough neighborhood, the local criminals, and his own family, especially his brother, all stand in the way. He'll have to be strong and clever to survive with his integrity intact.

While Taylor shows bleak surroundings and stories, the emphasis is on hope and perseverance. Considerable violence, none glamorized. Overall, a strong thriller.

This was such an enjoyable and refreshing book that kept me turning pages. The main characters were good people who I continued to root for. This is the first book I have read by this author and I really like his writing style and character development. I look forward to reading more of his books and hope that Stone Cold is the first in a series so readers may continue to enjoy these characters.
