Gail Jenner is a person who can tell a good story in person or in a book! I had the privileged of being stranded with this author at the Dallas Air port, coming out of Nashville. My son Geno LeSage and I were about a showcase for a young artist in Nashville. My son was a producer at that time. Gail had just visited her son also connected to music in Nashville.
It was a crowed lobby with a lot of frustration in the air. I found a vacant seat next to Gail. She seem to have a peace of mind and a friendly smile in the mists of all the confusion. It wasn’t long before we started chatting and Gail open up with this wonderful adventure her niece was involved with. She was a cinematographer working on a movie “Heathen and Thieves.” I found myself captivated by the way Gail told the story.
Later I was invited to view the movie in Chico Ca. with Gail and a lot of her family members and friends. I also got to meet her niece and some of the cast when it was finished. I value the friendship I have Gail Jenner.
Her book, “Across The Sweet Grass Hills” say a lot about Gail’s knowledge and wisdom about the west from a native American perspective. They lived a hard life to the fullest trusting in the Great Spirit through good and the evil among men.

I really could identify with the holy men like Crying Wind and Many words. They both had concerns for their people and the way their world was always troubled. In these times today it looks like America once more may change in a way that never will be the same. Red Eagle reminded me of a Christ type in a raging spiritual battle and Lisa a type of church coming out of a worldly culture and learning to trust her heart, spirit and savior.
Very well written Gail !! Thank you for another Great story.

I really enjoyed this book. It is good to see that the soldiers were the really bad people who tried to wipe out an innocent people! Too often it is the Indians who are blamed! They only wanted peace, but the white man with his greed prevented that. I would have liked the story to have gone on longer showing Red Eagle and Liza finally getting married and settling down with Bull Child and some of their own.

Love it because it was also historical and about the Blackfeet in Montana. Grew up near Browning, Montana, (Blackfeet Reservation) and related to the book more so. But I am a history buff and enjoyed reading about the Blackfeet as there is not too much history around about the Blackfeet, mostly the Lakota. Good book, even if you are not a history buff.

I must admit I found the first half of this book a bit boring, but I'm glad I persisted and continued reading as the story got better. Red Eagle is a quiet hero that grows on the reader, whereas Lisa was an irritating character that somehow lacks substance. It was okay, but not sure if I will return to this author......

This book was full of excitement, emotion, and of course love. It's based on history, so very interesting.

This was an exciting story of soldiers and Indians. It saddens me every time I realize how people thought of Indians. Whether they were peaceful or fighting.
Excellent fast moving story. The characters were believable. They faced challenges with no easy answers. I enjoyed how they worked through the problems they faced.
