Good book to read to get in goo Christmas mood.

Most of these are snippets pulled from famous authors' larger works (novels or short story collections), packaged together to reflect a Christmas theme. The majority of the stories were just so-so for me or I was already familiar with them from the original text (as with the Christmas conversation from Alcott's Little Women). The ones that peaked my interest the most were the selections from Pearl S. Buck and Alice Childress. Will look into finding the original books their pieces came from.

Reading these Christmas Stories written by women was a party. I’d been invited by a friend and hadn’t known what to expect. Turned out these were fifteen literary gems strung together on a holiday necklace, every one an artful portrait of its time, with its language, sights, sounds and aromas. I hadn’t imagined there would be mystery, but that was there, too, in the surprises. I’ve read most of the book twice already, and look forward to more visits.

Every selection Koppelman chose for this fine anthology is a beautifully-written satisfying story.

This is my first review, so I hope that tells you how strongly I feel about this book. I actually purchased my copy as a college freshman in 1989 when I was feeling homesick before the holidays. It was very comforting and comfortable - really reminded me of what Christmas felt like at home with Mom baking cookies and Christmas caroles on the record player. I re-read most of the stories every few years, and get something else out of them each time. This year as a mother I saw a few of them with new eyes (sometimes teary). I am now purchasing a few copies to use as gifts - this is a book that every Christian woman can enjoy. There is fine literatrure here, but also warm stories and heartfelt themes.

I had a copy of this book and enjoyed it for years. These stories are so well-written that they have remained with me for more than 20 years. I have just ordered another copy because I miss the stories so much and want to share them with others, including my students.
