ARC Riders is a 1995 time travel/alternate history novel by David Drake and Janet Morris.

ARC Riders is a 1995 time travel/alternate history novel by David Drake and Janet Morris. Like Poul Anderson's Time Patrol, the ARC Riders are an elite time traveling force, totally dedicated to preserving history as it is, preventing (or reversing) any attempt by "Revisionist" time-travelers to change it, and severely punishing any such Revisionists which they catch. "ARC" stands for "Anti-Revision Command"). ARC Riders was followed by a sequel, The Fourth Rome, in 1996.

I think he is spot on though. Good book, like I said.

But if you're read everything else he's written, then this may be a step back for you. I'm assuming it was one of his earlier books, especially because of the poor editing, I'm not used to so many obvious mistakes in his work. But I lovelies books, and Janet Morris as well. This was a bit predictable, but had a few twists I didn't see coming. His characters come alive, hard people who care so much for each other, and for the mission, the same people we let down when we tried to fight Vietnam from Washington, DC, instead of alongside those we sacrificed (sorry, personal opinion), and you can see how he felt about the war in his writing. I think he is spot on though. Good book, like I said. But read this first if you're new to Drake, then go one to the excellent Hammer's Slammer series, or go straight the Slammers - great books!

Didn't keep my interest.

DAVID DRAKE HAS TRIED A DIFFERENT TOPIC IN HIS WRITING. I FIND STORIES ABOUT TIME TRAVEL NOT TO BE VERY CONVINCING. DRAKE HAS NOT SUCCEEDED. ALTERNATED FUTURES CAUSED BY FUTURE TIME TRAVELERS DOES NOT FIT WELL. FIGHT SCENES ARE NOT WORTHY OF HAMMERS SLAMMERS. ON THE WHOLE I AM HAVING A DIFFICULT TIME TO FINISH THIS BOOK. I THINK THAT HE HAS LOST THE KNACK FOR WRITING GOOD FICTION. THIS IS HIS SECOND BOOK THAT I CAN NOT RECOMMEND.

I enjoy David Drake's books because of the flow of the writing, this book is very different, it's very choppy and not a fun read. I am having a difficult time completing it which would be a first for one of his books. I'm going to try to plow through it and maybe it will gel....maybe...
