Cayce's approach to staying well had its roots in health maintenance and preventive medicine rather than in the treatment of illnesses as they arose. Yet, his contribution to healing and physical well-being was not limited solely to proper diet and regular exercise. Any complete approach to health needed to consider an individual's entire being rather than simply the illness. "Heal Arthritis" by Dr William A. McGarey MD is a very helpful resource for dealing with the different challenges arthritis poses. For instance, the eleven steps deals forthrightly with many of the pain issues including the need for an arthritis-friendly diet, the use of comforting epsom salt baths, exercise , the use of castor oil packs, Atomidine, biofeedback techniques and much more.

The diet regime is on target too. The author recommends the consumption of mostly fruits & vegetables, whole grain products, nuts, seeds, fish, berries, Jerusalem artichokes, some honey and small amounts of black coffee or tea. Certain foods like cabbage must be consumed according to a specific protocol to minimize acidity. Beet juice is cited as an important tonic for arthritis sufferers. Consumption of tart cherries or tart cherry supplements is helpful too.

Overall, the book is easy to read and understand. Patients may implement portions of these readings in consultation with their health care providers. Health care providers who practice complementary medicine are best because they realize when to apply conventional medicine, as well as, the use of complementary medicine or alternative medicinal protocols.

Monitoring the blood urine chemistry is critical too. The C-reactive protein measures non-specific inflammation and is useful in targeting specific protocols to reduce the inflammation. Glucose control is critical too. The A1C blood protocol measures a glucose log over a 3 month period with emphasis on the most recent month. The pH value is measured in a standard blood chemistry, as well as, acid levels in the blood chemistry. The model pH level is 7.2.

A successful management of arthritis generally will be demonstrated by normalized levels of acid in the body, good glucose control and a minimum level of C-reactive protein usually around a .8 to 1.0 level. Diet is critical too. The model diet consists of fresh fruits, vegetables, deep sea fish, nuts, seeds, water, organic red meat in small portions and avoidance of fried foods.

I of course am an arthritis sufferer. I was really excited to get this book. The book claims that all you have to do to get "rid" of arthritis is to eliminate such and such foods or add such and such foods to your diet and lifestyle. Ok, I have tried several of these things including a fast to ready my body for this... and I have certainly had no miracle cure... not even close. Something tells me that if this were all that were necessary to eliminate arthritis, there would be a lot less arthritis in this world... and there is not. I will continue to try some of the methods in this book to see what I can accomplish... with a positive attitude as well, but to sum it up? I don't think this book has the miracle cure any more than any of the other books out there do. I do agree with some of the philosophy in the book and there may be some useful information as well... but certainly no healing cure.

It didn't give any new or innovative information on healing arthritis. What they recommend are not recommended by the medical profession. Certain people are allergic to various food they recommend.
