Leading Congregational Change book. Leading Congregational Change is an attempt at pouring new information into a genre of books that largely cover the gambit of church leadership and change issues well. Overall, Herrington’s book was a very disjointed assembly that began with narrow statistical information that is limited in usefulness for many churches outside the Union Baptist Association.

The authors, having led hundreds of congregations through change, present a powerful, sequential process for moving a church toward renewal. They reveal how to deal with resistance from key members who do not understand why change is needed, show how to develop a diverse group within the church who can collaboratively discern and help to implement God's vision for their congregation-and identify the specific leadership.

A Leadership Network Publication

With this much-needed handbook, the authors brilliantly combine their experience guiding dozens of churches through the change process with both the study of Christian disciplines and the sophisticated understanding of such important business thinkers as John Kotter on leading change and Peter Senge on learning organizations. Church transitions are always tricky. This is a great resource for walking a church through this difficult process. It starts by focusing the change agents on spiritual and relational vitality which is so very necessary for successful change.

If you are a task oriented individual like me who has a tendency to just get to work on the nuts and bolts this book is invaluable. Following it will help you avoid some serious (even catastrophic) mistakes. I've used it with several churches and highly recommend this product.

I like the simple description and the language used to explain in practical terms on how to lead congregational change and the steps involved in the transformational journey. The chart on the change process and the involvement of people and systems in the community of believers is clear and easily understood.
The only drawback is that the setting and the environment is based on a Western and developed community of faith of a homogeneous and well developed Christian country. For this I cannot fault the author, who may not be exposed to developing, multi-cultural and multi-racial religious faith community.

very helpful for churches wanting to find their way.

This companion to the book by the same title is one that is very helpful in incorporating its content into your ministry approach.

The workbook is a good companion to the corresponding book, however; section one in the book is section two in the workbook. This is confusing until you realize that you have to compare chapters.

Excellent and speedy service. ...

The book arrived on time and was a good price, it actually arrived earlier than expected and was in the condition it was written as.
I have found this book to be an outstanding resource for me as I come into a new church situation. It is clearly written, inspirational, deeply spiritually, and avoids all the pitfals of a programatic approach to church change. A must for a pastor who is stuck in the 1970's in his/her church.
