A brain tumor occurs when abnormal cells form within the brain. There are two main types of tumors: cancerous (malignant) tumors and benign (non-cancerous) tumors. Cancerous tumors can be divided into primary tumors, which start within the brain, and secondary tumors, which have spread from elsewhere, known as brain metastasis tumors. All types of brain tumors may produce symptoms that vary depending on the part of the brain involved.

To test a method of assessing quality of life, 200 primary brain tumor patients in an outpatient clinic answered a 20-minute questionnaire covering ten aspects of quality of life.

One of the hallmarks of malignant brain tumors is their extensive tissue invasion, which represents a major obstacle for effective treatment. In this paper we specifically model the invasive behavior of such tumors viewed as complex dynamic biosystems. To test a method of assessing quality of life, 200 primary brain tumor patients in an outpatient clinic answered a 20-minute questionnaire covering ten aspects of quality of life. Among patients with KPS 90-100 (two-thirds of the patients), the KPS alone was difficult to interpret.

Since the first meeting, the field of neuro-oncology has made remarkable progress in understanding both basic and clinical factors of significance to patients with brain tumor. Michael D. Walker, David . Springer Science & Business Media, 6 Ara 2012 - 515 sayfa. While the earlier meeting dealt to a large extent with clinically oriented studies, this symposium was more heavily weighted toward the biology of brain tumour and improving our understanding at the physiologic, biochemical, pharmacologic, and cellular level. This volume contains the proceedings of the Second International Symposium on Biology of Brain Tumour.

Brain tumours are the second most common malignancy in children and . David G T Thomas, in Contemporary Neurology, 1984. Primary tumors are divided into malignant or benign, and each group has different subtypes.

Brain tumours are the second most common malignancy in children and remain a significant cause of cancer into young adulthood. From: Specialist Training in Oncology, 2011. This heterogeneous group of tumors includes tumors of the meningeal coverings, the ependymal cells lining the ventricles, myelinating cells of the nerve sheets, and specialized support cells in the pituitary (Table 1). Their relative contribution to the overall population is illustrated in the pie chart in Figure 3.

The outlook for patients with primary malignant brain tumours remains gloomy. These lethal tumours make a particular impact, not only in neurological medicine and surgery, but also in society in general. The audience addressed consists both of post-graduate clinicians in the relevant fields of neurology, neurosurgery and oncology, and basic neuroscientists interested in the field. The contributors have expert scientific knowledge or extensive clinical experience. The purpose of the text is to present an up-to-date and authoritative view of the neuro-oncology of primary malignant brain tumours and includes reviews of imaging diagnosis, therapy by surgery, radiation chemotherapy and biological response modifiers together with pathological classification.
