The Student Study Guide summarizes the essential information in each chapter and provides additional problems for the student to solve, reinforcing the text’s emphasis on problem-solving strategies and student misconceptions. In the Cavendish balance apparatus shown in Fig. 1., suppose that m 1 . 0 kg, m 2 2. kg, and the rod connecting the m 1 pairs is 3. cm long.

than the volume in i. IDENTIFY: Convert ft 2 to m 2 and then to hectares. SET UP: Assume a school of a thousand students, each of whom averages ten pizzas a year (perhaps an underestimate) EXECUTE: They eat a total of 104 pizzas. EVALUATE: The same answer applies to a school of 250 students averaging 40 pizzas a year each. IDENTIFY: The displacements must be added as vectors and the magnitude of the sum depends on the relative orientation of the two displacements. SET UP: The sum with the largest magnitude is when the two displacements are parallel and the sum with the smallest magnitude is when the two displacements are antiparallel.

Do not buy this thinking that you're going to get anywhere near even half of the problems out of the book it pairs with. The problems that it does contain are worked out with some explanation. This will not help you learn how to do problems that are not in the book as each problem is very different from the last. Honestly though, any help is better than none so I probably would still buy this book again even though it's not very useful.

These solutions manuals will not help you learn new material.
They will only be useful if you are reviewing material you already know well enough to teach it yourself.

There is an old joke/cartoon that shows solution steps written on a chalkboard: Step 1 shows the setup, and Step 3 shows the solution. In between, Step 2 says: "A miracle occurs." That is how these solutions are set up, though they don't actually *say* a miracle occurs. They just make the jump.

There comes a point in each solution where the jump from one line to the next involves so much combining and skipping-of-steps that unless you are already very experienced in solving those problems, you will not be able to follow what the solutions writers did.

I like the textbook, I love the class, and I'm a straight-A student... but these solutions manuals are garbage.

Rather than a review, a story. A group of friends gathered together to study for a physics exam. The friends all sit down and gather their notes, and want to do the post chapter problems. They choose an easy problem, however they do not understand the solution listed in the back of the text book, one student pulls out the designated solutions manual and go to the selected problem. What is this? The problem and the answer are not listed! The manual is new, with no signs of tampering. It comes to reason that perhaps they left out the easy problems because the students should understand the theory by now. A second problem is chosen, and once more the students are stumped by the answer. The solutions manual is called upon, and once more it fails to have the selected problem listed. Stumped the students all look through the manual and begin to pick out the problems that the author actually chose to work out, and work that way. This is the method the students must use for the rest of the semester.

See, wasn't that a lovely story? The lesson learned here is if you are a prof, don't use this solutions manual. Only 1/4 of the solutions are in the manual, that's a whopping 78% of unanswered questions. It is understandable if the author did this on an easy section, something like conversions, or perhaps basic algebra. This is inexcusable, it is appalling to think that someone sat down, wrote this knowing it was trash, and had the audacity to charge for this.

i wish it was more question than it has. it has only every third question from book. but, they are nice explained

It does not include all solutions

Used this to check my answers for my Physics 421 (Electro Magntism) class and it was great. This can be a lifesaver if you find yourself stuck on a problem because it contains detailed steps in problem solving. I would recommend this as a supplementary to the Physics Book.

It's nice having the solutions to select problems in the book so you can work them out and then see if you did it the right way.
Only contains a few solutions, needs all solutions.
