Great book for all golfers, easy reading. Just what I wanted in completing my set of Harvey Penick books. Nice reading for the golfing nut. I fit the bill on that. Great little short stories about Harvey Pennick and some of the golfers he has taught over the years. Most important thing learned from this book is don't over think this silly little four letter game and enjoy it. Golfer195353. by coffeebrk3111 Jan, 2008. And if you play golf, you're my friend. I like this book, it tells a story and teaches you in simple terms easily. Too cold to play and it is interesting to hear the old teachers words to an upcoming or average golfer. Further Reflections of a Grown Caddie. by Harvey Penick with Bud Shrake.

Harvey Morrison Penick (October 23, 1904 – April 2, 1995) was an American golf professional and coach, who coached many Hall of Fame players. And If You Play Golf, You're My Friend: Furthur Reflections of a Grown Caddie. New York: Simon & Schuster. Late in life, he became a best-selling writer. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2002, seven years after his death.

Since the publication of Harvey Penick's Little Red Book, the world has almost literally beaten a path to Harvey Penick's door. Hardly a day goes by without a stranger arriving at the Penick home, book in hand, hoping for more pearls of wisdom, an autograph, or just wanting to say, "Thank you."

Bud Shrake, Penick's coauthor, noticed that Penick usually inscribes the books, "To my friend and pupil." How could he do that, Shrake asked him, when he didn't know these people?

"Well," replied Penick, "if you read my book you're my pupil, and if you play golf, you're my friend."

And If You Play Golf, You're My Friend picks up where the Little Red Book left off. It features the same blend of simple wisdom, sound golfing instruction, and good common sense that has made the Little Red Book so popular with golfers of all ages and levels of ability. And, as in the previous volume, Penick's deep love for the game and his delight in teaching shine through on every page.

Penick tells the story of his son-in-law's first golf lesson, a story with a twist right out of O. Henry. He relates the tale of a player from Houston who had only one flaw in his game -- that his scores were too high -- and who exploded with anger when Penick told him so. He gives advice to parents on how to help their children learn golf, shows how to overcome a slice by "playing baseball," and shares the pride and joy he felt while watching his pupil Tom Kite win the U.S. Open.

Warm, witty, and wise, And If You Play Golf, You're My Friend shows why Harvey Penick has become America's best-loved teacher of the great game of golf.

This is a wonderful compilation of the wit, life experiences & wisdom of a golf guru. This is a great addition to any golfer's library and a pleasure to read. There's really no mechanical instructions presented it's all anecdotal. Have had a difficult time putting the book down when I'm reading it.

The value of Mr Penick's teaching is immense. All of us who have play the game of golf for a while, know how difficult it is to master it. With Mr Penick's tips though, we can get closer to play our best golf. Wonderful book!

This is a good read if you are a golfer. For people who don't play golf they would find it a little boring. Personally I really enjoyed it.
