The most valuable aspect of this set are the occasional authoritative quotes the authors use from modern prophets and apostles, but if this is what you want, you would be better off with K Douglas Bassett's "Doctrinal Insights to the Book of Mormon" (3 vols) which are strictly quotes by apostles and prophets regarding each verse or chapter of the Book of. Mormon. Mormon Doctrine (originally subtitled A Compendium of the Gospel) is an encyclopedic work written in 1958 by Bruce R. McConkie, a general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). It was intended primarily for a Latter-day Saint audience and is often used as a reference book by church members because of its comprehensive nature.

As the keystone of our religion, the Book of Mormon is high-priority reading. Naturally, it is read with varying degrees of comprehension, and many of us need assistance to deepen our understanding. The four-volume commentary focuses on the most significant aspect of this standard work-doctrine. Dividing the material into convenient topical sections, each volume quotes the Book of Mormon verses and gives detailed commentary that reflects not only the authors' own considerable scholarship and research but also the insights of other scriptures and modern prophets. This invaluable commentary will help readers draw nearer to God by enhancing their study of His sacred word.

This is a fairly good series of commentary for the begining Book of Mormon Reader. These books provide a good basis to start from. Having sat at the feet of these two great scholars, I was a little dissappointed in the depth of their commentary. However they are both reliable sources.
RUL
The book came with ripped pages and was coming away from the binding.

Helps you gain insights that can easily be overlooked.

This book is part of a 4 piece series. Not as familiar with Fielding as I am with Millet. They have done a wonderful job here. Great set of commentary on this testament of Jesus Christ.

This set is page after page of the same-old stuff. The authors are very adept at saying the same thing in different words, and if they didn't this set would be half the size it is. If you want trite fluff, devotional musings or the like, this is for you, but there really is much better available. The authors offer nothing new to the study of the Book of Mormon. The most valuable aspect of this set are the occasional authoritative quotes the authors use from modern prophets and apostles, but if this is what you want, you would be better off with K Douglas Bassett's "Doctrinal Insights to the Book of Mormon" (3 vols). If you really want to learn something, the best commentary available on the Book of Mormon is Brant Gardner's "Second Witness" series (6 vols). It will be decades before anyone is able to surpass Gardner in scope or quality.

This commentary is one of the best! I am constantly learning and appreciating more about the Book of Mormon as a result of the author's fine work.

If you are looking for a companion study for this year's study of the Book of Mormon or anytime you are wanting more help in your scripture study this commentary is the best.
Wonderful companion to the Book of Mormon. Being newly Baptized, reading the Book of Mormon is not easy for me -- having this book truly helps know the real message, and helps follow the message of the prophets.
