There is so much to stimulate a young child's imagination in REAL life, without need for today's ugly cartoons. Dinosaurs and other prehistoric life comes to mind; and yet I have been disappointed with "dinosaur" books which too often convey only a few simple facts often the same in every book. What strikes me about this book is that it achieves my desire for conveying awe with creation and stimulating the imagination- it's lovely descriptive detail makes the reader feel as if present in the prehistoric skies. And it presents loads more info than is typical of this genre. Excellent for any serious Dino living kid and their grownup.

This is a wonderful book. As a biologist, I am always delighted to see books that debunk the misguided fantasy that animals have to be gruesome or dangerous to be interesting. This delightful book provides excellent information in a format that is not only readable but beautiful and poetic. It provides an enlightening view of these remarkable animals and opens doors to new ideas about prehistory for those people only exposed to the thrilling violence of the "dinosaur-as-monster" movies and books. The author shows a true appreciation of animal life, past and present. Although the wording might be best for children 5th grade and up, many smaller children easily appreciate having it read to them with some explanations. It's even enjoyable to the interested adult. I highly recommend it!!!
