I'm just starting the book, previewing before my class starts, but one annoyance has surfaced already. It looks like revisions to the text are all accumulated and, rather than inserting the revisions or clarifications where they should be in the text, they are all deposited at the end of the sections. The text is then sprinkled with (See the Remarks).
So, you can either interrupt the flow of your reading by flipping back and forth to the end of the section to see what the Remarks are, or just skip them and read them at the end of the section and wonder what the authors are talking about.
I assume this was done to save layout costs, but it comes at the price of readability of the text.

Good intro book. I especially like the chapter on La Place transforms.

Don't expect to gain comprehensive understanding from text and examples from this book.
Good:
1. Decent organization, shows theorems and rules.
Bad:
1. Text is not written well; the author could do a better job of explaining. Eg Chap 1.1 in defining a non-linear equation; the authors says "a nonlinear equation is NOT Linear".... ummmm yeah....
2. Not enough book examples
3. Solutions don't have explanations...even the solution manuals ONLY has the odd solutions that's in the text book. wtf????

We're using this book in my DE class.... i thought it was a bad choice. I find myself going online searching for notes/classes/videos etc to help.... this method is taking me a while but I'm getting thru it.

go to Khan Academy online... very helpful... also MIT has some free videos online for Differential Equations.

This book is very comprehensive. It derives pretty much every useful equation, but the authors sometimes seem to get carried away going into a little too much detail, which makes it a little hard to understand at times.

Although this book can make the terminology confusing, there was not one time I was confused at understanding concepts. I was able to gather info from one part of the text all the way 40 or 50 pages later and connect the concepts. I LOVE THIS BOOK!
Good book. Got me through 3 of my classes. Good reference material too! Useful to an engineer that isn't a math major or minor.
