Yoga and the Sacred Fire is one of the most important texts on Yoga ever written. Frawley's text is filled with inspired teachings which will awaken the inner flame of the Heart and reveal the Inner Guru that resides within all of us. If you are seeking true Yogic teachings, look no further. Yoga and the Sacred Fire reveals the myriad ways in which the Divine Fire of our souls can inspire and heal. In this age of ecological crisis, Frawleys poignant message is truly transformational. Yoga and the Sacred Fire reveals how Yoga and Ayurveda can become beacons of light to our confused and materialistic age. If you are seeking to truly deepen your understanding of Yoga and Ayurveda, Yoga and the Sacred Fire can be the spark that ignites the Flame of the Spiritual Heart!

The best thing I can say for this book is that reading it with a friend can prove to be an evening of laughing hysterically.

To those already enlightened, seeking to further themselves, this book offers no new insights.

To those seeking enlightenment, this book is misleading.

The writing is so terrible, it becomes unintentional comedy.

David Frawley begins with the wisdom of truth, light, the universe, the psyche, the soul, or whatever you wish to call it. As the book proceeds, that inspiration dwindles into nothingness. After page 25 there is hardly the faintest spark of truth. There are 291 pages. As one who knows and seeks light and truth, this book was a complete and utter waste of time.

I would recommend this book to absolutely no one.

If you appreciate laughing at absurdity however, this book is a gold mine.

I feel bad for anyone who takes the writing in this book to heart, and especially Frawley himself, for falling so far from the path.

Here are some important excerpts from the book (that occur in the first 25 pages)...

"...inner light... is the highest truth."

"The knowledge of the soul has the power to transcend death."

"-- a kind of death of the ego" (where Frawley attempts to describe his experience with truth, or light).

"Yoga is the... methodology of light"

"It works not through ideas or beliefs but through precise methods to harness higher energy sources inside ourselves."

"Truth is One, but the paths are many"

"The sacred... exists in all life"

"It cannot be reduced to any particular religion, philosophy or spiritual path."

"It is the true speaker, the seer... of which our current human personalities (read "egos") are but a reflection or a shadow."

"Being is hidden in all things at their silent core."

"[The psyche/soul's] development is the very purpose of our existence."

"...soul in the sense of... the immortal part of our nature that is our inner guide and true Self."

"It has evolved through the eons... providing a capacity far beyond our current birth, education or circumstances."

"As we approach this unknown core of our psyche... It can be frightening for our outer ego to get too close to our true soul..."

"The soul is the main part of our nature that we have forgotten in the modern world, trapped as we are in appearances, prices and quantities."

"Most of our current problems -- from individual psychological problems to global political concerns -- derive from this 'loss of the soul'." (Not entirely correct, but close enough)

"...most of our efforts to reclaim the soul today, whether through religion, psychology, the new science or much of New Age thought, generally fail. This is because they don't go to the real essence of the soul -- the pure consciousness at our core -- but view the soul as the property of a religion or a philosophy, or merely some aspect of inspiration or creativity within us. In fact, most of the current literature available about the soul is not about our real soul or eternal being but only about aspects of our being slightly more internal than the ego, but still not reaching our universal essence. The result is that for all the recent talk about the soul, our culture and many of our lives continue to drift in a soulless direction." (Again, not entirely correct, but close enough)

"We must learn to listen to the voice of the soul..."

"To hear it requires that we..." (I'll finish that... "silence our ego")

"The wise often avoid stating anything directly because most people are unprepared to see truth." (More cautious than wise...)

"Their goal is to stimulate our own insight and experience, not merely to pass on a belief or idea..."

"Spiritual truth transcends mere words."

And that's about it for worthwhile reading. The rest is (almost entirely) garbage (which was needed to justify filling a book instead of a pamphlet).

As I said before, those already enlightened will find no new insights here, and those seeking enlightenment will do well to stay away from this book, lest they find themselves led astray.
