Home Browse Books Book details, The Human Revolution. The first volume in a five-volume work in the form of a slightly fictionalized biography describing the development of Soka Gakkai, the worldwide religion based on Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism. The Human Revolution - Vol. 1. By Daisaku Ikeda, Teikichi Miyoshi. The inspiration for the Japanese original of this novelized biography came to me one day many years ago while Josei Toda, the late second president of Soka Gakkai and my mentor, was still alive.

"Mahatma Ghandi proclaimed that the 'power of the spirit' is stronger than any atomic bomb. To transform this century of war into a century of peace, we must cultivate the limitless inherent power of human life. This is the 'human revolution', and it will be the theme that flows consistently throughout the novel." So wrote Daisaku Ikeda when he began The New Human Revolution, which chronicles the growth of the Soka Gakkai from the time he became president in 1960. This is the story of Josei Toda's disciples as they strive to carry on his spirit to share the humanism of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism throughout the world. Much more than a novelized history, The New Human Revolution is also a pertinent textbook of how to practice Buddhism and build a movement for peace today.

Great read for Soka Gakkai members. So inspiring how President Ikeda travelled around North and South America in order to propagate the practice and encourage members in those places.

I, myself a practicing Nichiren Daishonin SGI Buddhist found this book to be filled with fasinating experiences: struggles and triumphs in rebuilding the moral fiber of a sorely defeated country and culture. How the dynamics of a faith belief and amazing undaunted leadership, causing ordinary people to bring their best self to every situation... being extraordinary - Nam myoho renge kyo

Daisaku Ikeda is definitely a radical of the most fundamental kind and like his mentor Josei Toda he along with the Soka Gakkai are drastically changing the world in a positive way.

Excellent ***** Daisaku Ikeda author Exceeds All Expectations Get A Copy Immediately*****
This is volume 9 of a projected 30 volume series. The series traces the growth of the Soka Gakkai (Value Creation Society) from 1960 forward. The author, Daisaku Ikeda, crafts each chapter in a compelling manner, using an unpretentious writng style which is to the point. The reader not only gains an understanding of the Buddhist philosophy as taught by the 13th century reformer Nichiren but also glimpses into the lives of those who practice in contemporary times. Their stories are often moving and inspirational testimonies to their Buddhist faith. Another thread running through the series is the criticism and attacks the Soka Gakkai organization endures as a result of its successful efforts to introduce others to the practice of Nichiren Buddhism. The author, Mr. Ikeda, also interweaves concise summaries of the current events which provide a backdrop to the Soka Gakkai's efforts to expand its movement to realize a society based on Buddhist humanism. Compelling story of an organization and its members who are dedicated to promoting understanding between individuals, societies, and nations.
