Why are you so dead set against seeing the reality women live through on a daily basis? Gomez asked

Or a Hillary Clinton supporter, for that matter. He’s running as a Libertarian for North Dakota insurance commissioner. His campaign slogan is not Make America Rape Again. He made a punny joke. Why are you so dead set against seeing the reality women live through on a daily basis? Gomez asked. Is the reality that women you care about go through this too much for you to handle? Or can you be so arrogant to think that only your life experience is valid? AD.

Against Rape is one of the earliest texts on a delicate subject, a polemic-cum-survival manual as well a thoughtful study. In 1975 it broke the silence on rape, not only in the U.S., but around the world. It was the first book to look at the causes and patterns of rape in order to reduce its power in the minds and lives of women, enable women and men to begin to change a society that engendered it, and help women avoid and/or survive the trauma of rape. It is also a realistic and practical book, explaining how to recognize and avoid dangerous situations and giving instructions on various self-defense techniques and advice on what to do in the event of rape. It also considers the act of rape in context, discussing why it happens, what forms it can take, how it affects the victims and who the rapists are. It has been widely used in rape crisis centers and women's studies courses and was the primary text for Chimera, Inc.'s self-defense courses for women for more than a decade. It has had a major impact on the way our society deals with this crime.

Andrea Medea has written a strong feminist tract that clearly identifies how women have been marginalized by the legal system in assault cases. Many times, the system blames the woman for being the victim of an attack by suggesting what she is wearing, the way she is walking or the fact that she chose to be in a certain place at a certain time means SHE is responsible for the male losing control and mindlessly attacking her.

What I found most useful is her description of the "little rapes," where women are trained to be submissive even when they don't want to. I use this when training women in my self-defense classes that most modern women need to learn how to say "No!" Strongly, definitely, loudly if necessary, a woman must get up on her hind legs and say "NO!"
