Let me preface by saying that I have read all of this series except maybe one book. I always enjoy these but this one held less fascination for me than other topics. I found the murder aspect interesting and some of the aspects of the fashion industry but overall I found it slow going. I usually speed through, especially those in exotic locations but this one in New York, not so much. There were situations and circumstances meant to sidetrack the reader from the real culprit and I did not figure out who did it until the big reveal which is always a plus in my book. I will look forward to the next one in the series and hope that George, Jessica's love interest will be more than just a dropped name.

I was a bit worried with the last few novels in this series as they were terrible but this one is so much better. I am fan of all kinds of mysteries but not of fashion so I was even more worried about this one. However, it turned out to be pretty good. The ending was still predictable and a lot of characters are ignored but the important thing is that Jessica was actually investigating the mystery the whole time and there were clues to follow. The plot was very good and creative. Usually Bain's plots are and he just fails to execute them well but he did it beautifully here.

Thanks for another great book! Keep them coming! Everything in life has to end or grow old. Why not let Mrs.Fletcher keep on keeping on? After all she's fictional.

I think I have read every one of the Jessica Fletcher books over these many years. This one is definitely NOT up to par. I would urge others not to judge the series by this one book. The outcome and cause of death were obvious from about the 3rd Chapter and the plot was rather weak. It won't stop me from looking forward to the next book in the series though.

Set out of Cabot Cove but it works as the description of the location it is set in really captures the sights and sounds of the area. Cosy mystery with the usual Jessica Fletcher flair of solving the mystery.

The "Murder, She Wrote" mysteries are a spin off of the very successful tv show that ran for almost 12 years with Jessica Fletcher, the main character, a retired teacher turned writer, who got herself involved in murders, played by Angela Landsbury. She got herself involved in LOTS of murders. Each murder or series of them happened in her fictional town of Cabot Cove, Maine, USA or took her to some interesting and delightful travel spot where she got to stay and meet the local law enforcement who usually needed her help to solve the crime because they were too stupid. Despite the predictability of the TV plots, the show has remained intensely popular in reruns. I see old people in their homes (I am a house call nurse practitioner) and I regularly find my homebound patients watching the show when I make my calls to them. Now for the books. They are a huge improvement on the TV show. Donald Bain (and now his daughter who writes them since he died) is a ghostwriter for many other books and was a college English professor. He writes tight, suspensful, entertaining little cozies that one simply cannot put down. If your only exposure to Jessica Fletcher is the TV series, and it bored you, get one of these books and read them. You meet the REAL Jessica here: she is an adult with real emotions, conflicts and one tough and very smart female protagonist. Highly recommended. Rest in peace, Mr. Bain, you did a great job.
