It would be brought to the morgue, and tomorrow morning he'd reexamine it. There was something about her left foot or leg that he had noticed and dismissed as irrelevant. He pushed that thought aside. It was useless to speculate until he could reexamine the body.

A minor road accident landed county prosecutor Katie DeMaio in Westlake Hospital. That night, from her window, she thought she saw a man load a woman's body into the trunk of a car...or was it just a sleeping pill induced nightmare? At work the next day, Katie began investigating a suicide that looked more like murder. Initial evidence pointed elsewhere, but medical examiner Richard Carroll saw a trail leading to Dr. Edgar Highley. He suspected that the famous doctor's work "curing" infertile women was more than controversial -- that it was deceitful, depraved, and often deadly. But before Richard could tell Katie his fears, she left the office for the weekend and an appointment for routine surgery...in Dr. Highley's operating room.

Competent suspense, full of plausible twists and crisp pacing, though I can't help but wonder how much more enjoyable the story would have been if the killer's identity had been withheld till the end in the vein of the traditional whodunit. And I rolled my eyes more than a little at the notion that the main character was portrayed as tough and resilient but in the end needed to be rescued by the tiresome one-note knight-errant. But Mary Higgins Clark clearly tapped into something the reading world wanted, and I salute her prolific and professional approach to tales of upscale suspense.

Again this is a book I've read Long ago and please to say I really enjoyed the book just as much as the last time maybe more. I have chosen to reread more of her books again she really knows how to spin a good mystery so don't take my word pick up any one of her books you will be glad you did.

It started out action packed then lost its momentum. I lost interest and I didn’t finish it.
Definitely not one of her best. Waste of money and Waste of Time.

I really don’t like to criticize books. What I might not enjoy doesn’t mean someone else’s won’t enjoy it. Look at the other reviews.......judge for yourself ????

I really enjoyed this one. Unlike most Mary Higgins Clark, this one isn’t a whodunit. We know who the killer is right off, but it’s fun seeing when/how he’ll get caught and how many more people he’ll kill before he is caught; also if our heroin will survive. Very interesting and exciting.

Needs editing. Not just for punctuation but for overuse of adverbs, adjectives and generally distracting sloppy sentence writing. I have read many earlier MHC books all were much better than this. Style is different. Reader knows too much about the villain which lessens the "mystery." Suspense was supposed to build, but it didn't.

Well written with lots of info about investigation. Healthy book, mentally as well as physically. Good plot; suspenseful, could hardly put it down.
Good story, uplifting.
How can you not like everything she writes. A really enjoyable read.
