This guide to Kibbutz life gives details of 200 Kibbutzim as well as telling the reader what to expect when working in one - describing the special atmosphere of these communities. Also included is a fund of valuable information on other vacation and short-term work in Israel, including a chapter on the Moshav Movement, conservation, archaeological digs, fruit picking, voluntary work with Palestinian refugees, au pair work and hotel work. In addition there are sections devoted to Kibbutz Ulpan, money, customs, food and drink, where to stay and generally how to see the country as an insider rather than a mere tourist.

The book needs to be updated very badly, especially for a movement that is so rapidly changing. The information in this book is outdated and inaccurate. There are some parts that I suspect are still useful but there is no way of knowing which is which. I highly do NOT recommend this book until they make an updated addition.

A great book! Packed full of great information for planning volunteer duty in Israel. I am planning my trip with a full understanding of the culture and facts of kibbutz lifestyle, all based on what I learned from the book. I highly recomend this book to any one planning on spending time in the middle east!
