In 1968, the Easter Bilby concept was introduced for the very first time by a 9-year-old girl named Rose-Marie Dusting. Her fictitious story known as Billy the Aussie Easter Bilby influenced generations to engage in saving the bilby. The story was eventually published as a book in 1979. More children books have also been published by Irena Sibley; her first book from 1994, The Bilbies’ First Easter became a bestseller.

The greater bilby, a threatened marsupial with rabbit-like ears, digs burrows that provide habitat for dozens of species, a new study says. The greater bilby (Macrotis lagotis), also known as the rabbit-eared bandicoot, is a desert-dwelling creature that once occupied over 80 percent of the continent. But due to decades of decline-driven largely by habitat loss and predation by cats, foxes, and other introduced species-bilbies now only exist in a handful of remote regions in Western Australia, Queensland, and the Northern Territory. The International Union for Conservation of Nature and the Australian government consider the animal vulnerable to extinction.

The Bilby has claimed a special place in Australian culture. Not only was the continent invaded by rabbits, but the Easter Bunny was a celebrated envoy of the holiday, until a wise soul came up with the Easter Bilby, celebrating one of Australia's native, threatened, and cutest creatures.

The story portrays a drought-worn Australia, with a little boy looking to the skies and outback creatures for some relief in the form of helping him paint eggs for Easter. Throughout the rather melancholy-drawn tale, other native species (cockatoos pop up everywhere!) help and appear with the Bilbies, who take center stage.

There is absolutely no link to the Christian Easter story in this book -so it was rather disappointing and is just about some coloured eggs and a rainbow

The THREE TREES book is a far better Easter story that does have links to the manger in the stable where Jesus Christ was born in on the very first Christmas-the second tree became the boat he sailed when he calmed the storm on the sea of Galilee and the third tree became the cross on which Jesus Christ died crucified on Good Friday to save all mankind for our earthly sins . But Jesus Christ arose alive on Easter Sunday -so that now we can all join him in heaven forever when we believe and accept his free gift of eternal life..
