Pathetic Phallus book. He is the son of Sir Fitzroy Maclean – an Etonian, brilliant linguist, near-legendary adventurer, war hero, diplomat and author of Eastern Approaches. Charles Maclean is something of an adventurer himself, and certainly in his own literary journey. His first job was helping set up the Ecologist magazine; he also worked on a ranch, and as a merchant seaman.

Charles Maclean may refer to: Charles Fraser MacLean (1841–1924), American jurist. Sir Charles Maclean, 9th Baronet (1798–1883), 25th Chief, 1847–83. Charles Maclean, Baron Maclean (1916–1990), 27th Chief, 1936–90. Charles Rawden Maclean (1815–1880), alias "John Ross", an opponent of slavery. Charles W. MacLean (1903–1985), suffragan bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island.

One of his books won the James Beard Award for Wine and Spirit Book of the Year 2005, and was shortlisted for the Glenfiddich Food and Drink Awards. Charles was elected a Keeper of the Quaich in 1992, the industry's highest accolade, for his services to whisky over many years.
