Gir
I just finished this on April 10, 2013 and think it's kind of ironic that this was written in the 70's. How much have we heard about "dirty bombs" since 9/11? This is the story of how some kids obtained plutonium, instructions, and actually made one before the term was even coined! There was obviously a concern back then about how easy it might be for anyone to get the materials to make an atomic bomb and then terrorize a city. And also that it is not too difficult to actually make one. The kids in the book did just that because they believed that no one was taking the threat seriously enough. We definitely go on a roller coaster ride with building the bomb, how they get found out, and what then happens. The book was written 36 years ago which I think makes it all the more chilling to read today.
