The First World War of 1914–1918 was the bloodiest conflict in Canadian history, taking the lives of nearly 61,000 Canadians.

The war officially ended at 11 am on 11 November 1918. Donald Trump headed toward the Arc de Triomphe as did buses filled with world leaders including Emmanuel Macron, Angela Merkel and Justin Trudeau, but the group were running late. Many of the leaders, holding black umbrellas, stood in a line short of the monument at 11 am. matt.

In 1914 Britain, though hesitantly, decided to enter the war, thus fulfilling her loosely-defined obligations towards the other Entente states.

Written in 1978 by Patricia Giesler, then in the Directorate of Public Relations in the Canadian Department of Veterans Affairs in Ottawa, and published through the Department of Supply & Services, this 9 x 8 1/2-inch booklet provides - in both English and French - 29 pages chronicling the efforts of the Canadian military in The Great War - more commonly referred to today as World War I or the First World War. Sprinkled throughout are these vintage photographs/paintings/war maps:

This purchase was extremely special. I had a copy of this book along with the one covering WW II. I had lent the book to an acquaintance but unfortunately he stole it. The book is now back in its proper place together with the First Canadian Division battle bugle. The bugle was my grandfather's and has many of the famous battles enscribed on it including Vimy Ridge and Passehendaele. My daughter will inherit this family treasure and hopefully will pass it on to her children. Thank you for restoring our family treasure.
