Wilbert Vere Awdry OBE (15 June 1911 - 21 March 1997) was an English Anglican clergyman, railway enthusiast, and children's author. He was best known for creating The Railway Series and its characters, as well as writing the first twenty-six books in the series from 1945 to 1972. His series and several of his original stories were later adapted for the television show Thomas & Friends by Britt Allcroft.

Edward is a blue mixed-traffic tender engine. He runs his own branch line with BoCo. Edward is one of the oldest engines on Sodor and is occasionally made fun of for his age. Despite this setback, he is also very wise and optimistic and spreads his knowledge and encouraging attitude towards the other engines. Edward was built by Sharp, Stewart and Company at their Atlas Works in Glasgow, Scotland in 1896.

Edward, Trevor and the Really Useful Party is the sixteenth episode of the third series. It is based on the magazine stories, The Vicar's Fete and Edward and the Vicar. Trevor brings important news for Edward; the Vicar is organising a garden party to fund a trip to the seaside for underprivileged children and Trevor will be the party's main attraction. Edward wishes he could help but he knows he cannot be useful without his rails

12 Wilbert the Forest Engine. Awdry was unhappy with Dalby's depiction of the character, which he felt did not look like a real engine ("a green caterpillar with red stripes").

12 Wilbert the Forest Engine. 3 Thomas and the Fat Controller's Engines. 5 Thomas and Victoria. Thomas is a small tank engine who works at a big station fetching coaches for the big engines, but who longs for greater things beyond the station yard. Unfortunately, his efforts go wrong. However, after showing that he can be a useful engine following James's accident with some trucks, he is rewarded with his own branch line and his two coaches named Annie and Clarabel.

Wilbert Vere Awdry, OBE (15 June 1911 – 21 March 1997) was an English Anglican cleric, railway enthusiast, and children's author. Better known as the Reverend W. Awdry, he was the creator of Thomas the Tank Engine, the central figure in his Railway Series. Awdry was born at Ampfield vicarage near Romsey, Hampshire on 15 June 1911. His father was the Reverend Vere Awdry (1854–1928), the Anglican vicar of Ampfield, and his mother was Lucy Awdry (née Bury) (1884-1965)

The reason I love Thomas the Tank Engine so much is that when we were little my Dad read them to us as bedtime stories. W. V. Awdry was born on June 15, 1911 in Hampshire, England. He was ordained as a minister in 1936 and served as a vicar in many parishes

The reason I love Thomas the Tank Engine so much is that when we were little my Dad read them to us as bedtime stories. He had a different tone of voice for each engine, and was brilliant at bringing the story to life. He was ordained as a minister in 1936 and served as a vicar in many parishes. Fascinated by trains since childhood, Awdry told train stories to his young son, Christopher. When his son quickly pointed out discrepancies between his retelling of these stories, Awdry realized the importance of writing them down.

Edward's driver and fireman are identified in this book as being named Charlie Sand and Sidney Hever, the only engine crew to be given names (apart from Henry's fireman, revealed to be named Ted in the Thomas & Friends annuals).

Wilbert Vere Awdry, OBE, better known as the Rev. Awdry, was an English clergyman, railway enthusiast and children's author, and creator of Thomas the Tank Engine, who starred in Awdry's acclaimed Railway Series. The characters that would make Awdry famous, and the first stories featuring them, were invented in 1943 to amuse his son Christopher during a bout of measles
